View Full Version : Nem Quarintine
i was in my local marine Supplier today & overheard him tell a guy that just bought a anemonne that he would need to quarintine it for a week or 2
Is this right, i would have thought that they were to fragile to be moved so much
but then i know nothing about anemonnes
just curious
i would have thought that it wouldn't need to be put in a qt tank for a week, he probably meant that after acclimitizing after a few hours place it at the bottom of the tank and then over a period of a couple of weeks move it into the area you would like it to be.
only problem with that is anemones have the ability to move and will find it's own place in the tank.
hth
jase
and if it were in Q proper 2 weeks would be a bit pointless if trying to limit the introduction of nasties to the tank.
Firefish - The Fish shop dude meant Quarintine as in another tank, not acclimitistion ;)
Tiggsy - Why would 2 weeks not be enought time ;)
:D
Tiggsy - Why would 2 weeks not be enought time ;)
serious question?
serious question?
I'll maybe wait until some of the adults are online to answer it then
Maybe get a serious educated answer rather than a sarckie comment
I asked if you were serious as you used a winking smiley after the question - the use of such a item normally suggests a tounge in cheek response or a stab at humour...........in your case it seems the question WAS serious thus your smiley is inappropriate - unless you normaly make weird faces at people you are in conversation with?
Considering your first post directed at me came with the internet version of a grinning fool and your second attacked my assumed age and education.........i'll leave you to your winking ignorance on the subject of quarantine.
Anyway, now that rattles have been thrown & I've been chastised for improper use of a wink.
(Thank you Tiggsy, your obviously an accomplished winker & know more about the practise than I do)
Now that that is done;)
Can anyone else help me out with the question of Quarintining a nem
Would quarantine itself be a good idea? &/or is it a neccessity with nems
& if you did/would quarintine a nem-
Would a 2 weeks period be enough?
:D
Some people quarantine everything including corals & live rock.
Others (me included) take a risk as they don't have room/time to setup a quarantine tank.
If you're going to quarantine something, there's no point unless you do it for 6-7 weeks as that's the length of the life cycle of the diseases you're trying to avoid introducing.
Ok I see
I would have just thought that Nems being so fragile that Quarintining a nem would/may have casued it more problems (stress) than it would have solved
Thanks for that Alan
Anymore comments/ideas on why not to quarintine a Nem
Or on the flip side why we should quarintine one
:D :D
