I have been setting up a breeding tank over the last few weeks and thought I would give you an update.

I originally brought...

2 x 3ft x 1ft x 1ft tanks seperated into 3 x 1ft mini tanks.
1 x 3ft x 1ft x 1ft tank seperated into 4 seperate mini tanks.

These tanks have been drilled & have weirs. The partitions are slightly unusual as instead of them being lower at the top, there have a run off space at the bottom (see attached pics).

I then have a 3ft sump.

Origianlly I planned to have all 3 breeder tanks in the setup, but the hight of the shed has restricted to the sump and two breeder tanks.

Once the back design was sorted I then had to figure out how I wanted to plum in the pipe work so that I go an even steady flow. I therefore eventually decided to have each mini tank being feed instead of the first tank getting all the flow and that feeding the remaining tanks. I also decided to place an isolation valve between the 2 breeder tanks so initially i can run the first tank and when need be get the 2nd (upper tank) in the loop.

The sump has 3 section, the 1st section will be where the water enters the sump and contain cheato, the middle and main section will contain a sandbed and live rock and the last section will contain the eheim pump, heater, etc.

I bulit the stand out of 4 x 2 and although im not a chippy, it will hold the tanks, but may need to be braced to the wall for stability.

I have painted the tanks and have patched up any missing silicon. I also lowered the weir height and siliconed a acrylic weir onto it.

The plumbing work is all done now and I am in the process of filling up with RO. Once it is full I plan to run a salt mix through the pipe work as i am unsure about the marley pipe work and whether it will leech. Once this has been running for a while I will add live rock to the sump, introduce lights and eventually as the bioload wont be to high, a skimmer, something like a mce600 or 500.

Thats about it for the mo. Oh yer, I plan to raise cardinals & also the odd shelf of softy frags,

The middle pane of glass in the sump has now been removed so that the flow will flow under the 1st pane, through the live rock in the middle section and up and over the last partition.

Hello mate, as i am currently breeding Cardinals, but only 1 batch of babies at a time. This will allow me to raise multiple batchs. For the sump I simply plan to have T5's. As for the main tanks Im still deciding but more than likely 1 150w MH or T5's as I also plan to add some shelving to frag corals, mainly softies, but might try SPS, etc

The sump, no, plan to have sand bed. The growing tanks, yes BB.

I will try and brace to the wall, but its fairly steardy, but as the pipe run down the back its about 5" away from the wall.

as long as the foors flat and the stands steady i wouldent stress about fixing to the wall (i would to er on the side of caution) as once that's filled with water it aint going to shift
