A sharp blade and a steady hand, cut into halves or into 4 pieces making sure each piece has an equal section of the mouth.... not uncommon over on reefcentral but totally unnecessary, you're better off just leaving it, it will split on its own when its ready.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that it depends from where the anemone was collected - deeper water specimens are less likely to split than shallow water ones. (Or I could have that the wrong way round.) I have one that looks much like yours - I kind of like the fact that it's grown so big now. Although it would have looked a bit out of place in my previous (smaller) tank.
I'm not convinced that an anemone splitting is always is a good sign - I believe they also do it when stressed. Certainly if it hasn't chosen to split, I don't take it as a sign of it not being "happy".

I too have a BTA, my problem is that it moves about the tank every few days and every softie that it touches, closes up and my pink pulsing zena has never recovered.....do you experience the same?

Hi Joni,
General wisdom is that if an anemone moves, it's because there is something in it's environment that it's not happy about. This could be lighting, flow, neighbouring corals, and so on.
If you'd like to give us a few more details about your tank, maybe someone can point out what it might be that your anemone is objecting to.

Joni how often do you feed your nem? anemones especially BTAs seem to move when hungry as they think a new spot will allow them to find more food.i recommend you feed a small piece of silverside daily as they very rarely move when well fed.
Karensroseanemones website also supports this theory.

So Karen supports your theory as opposed to you supporting hers???? How did she learn of your theory????:rolleyes:
No lol the theory wasn't mine to begin with! i emailed karen and she said that her nems move more often when they haven't been fed for a few days and she said that with every other day or daily feedings they tend to stay put,i also tested this theory out and it worked and i know a few people on RC who have also had good results.
Didn't mean it to sound like i invented the theory lol

hi again thanks for all the input, karens site is great and she is really helpfull.... i dont mind the size on my nem he is a great feature in the tank i was just wondering about them splitting as he is taking over that end of the tank, but as i said i will leave him be. :)

i bought a rbta and it split within 3 weeks, before it split it moved about quite a bit.they have both settled down opposite each other and have grown to over 16ins across. i normally feed them every couple of days and they have not moved for over 6months.derek
