Anyone keep a blue sponge successfully?
Tips/ advise appreciated.:) :)
I have had one about eight months.
Seems to be doing ok, not in too strong a flow area, low down in my structure.
Did have a worry when one morning I noticed a bit broken off (had heard stories of the sponge dying and killing other things) but i just removed the broken bits and slowly over time the main sponge has grown back so as you can no longer detect where the damage was.
i don't do anything specific but do feed a good quality Phyto once a week to the tank.
Same here, medium flow under T5s, I do feed phyto when I remember, but it was happy for 6 months when I didn't feed also. I dont use additives, just seems a happy bunny whatever I do. Just remember, never expose to air EVER.

not sure about that but mine is roughly 25" below a 250w halide and I don't feed any supplements. had it 6 months plus.
I did expose it to air once when doing a water change and half of the sponge was out the water when I noticed it but I placed it back down underneath the water and suffered no damage.

That was lucky :)
In terms of shade mine is low down in the tank but not hidden away. From recollection the few articles I read prior to buying it suggested as long as it wasn't in direct intense light it should do well.
They don't like bubbles either. My powerhead blasted mine with bubbles when I'd cleaned it, it was not too happy
