Hi everyone, hope you can put my mind at rest:confused:

Just became the proud owner of my new Anthias.

Acclimatised as per normal.

Put him in the tank and everything was going well, until one of my clowns went over to say hello.

After what can only be described as some amazing acrobatics (swimming at speed and jumping/colliding with rocks) I have noticed that his left eye has swollen and is protruding slightly.

Is this likely to be bruising and will it die down???

Both eyes were fine in the shop.

Water params are as per normal.

Anthias are very prone to popeye partly as they are quite a deep water reef fish and as such susceptible to gas bubble disease in an aquarium, due to gas regulation problems at the shallow depths they are now kept in.

Normally this gets better on its own, but will benefit if you have deep tank (I know some importers keep antihias with popeye at depth for a few weeks to treat it.)

However it may need treating if it becomes infected

I have him in a vision 180, and whilst it may not be the longest tank in the world, at least it is about 2 foot deep. Fingers crossed I wont need any treatments, but if I did, what could I use in a reef tank?

not much really, a general anti-bacterial may help but a separate tank would be the best option if it came to that
