I think there's some evidence that lack of Iodine stops them pulsing.
But I put mine on the compost heap :D

generally any conditions they don't like, low ph , low calcium levels, high temps, insufficient flow.
they will continue to grow and spread however even if not pulsing.

I find that when it is in high flow it stops pulsing and becomes very 'leggy'.

Mine usualy gets chucked in the neighbours hedge so the dogs can't reach it.

well can u tell me if this is ok then ammonia = 0, nitrite= 0, nitrate = 20, ph = 8.5, kh = 9, calcium = 500, phosphate = 0, conductivity = 52.2, specicific gravity = 1.020, magnesium = 1200

looking at your params i would say your salinity is a bit too low, needs to be a specific gravity of 1.025 or 1.026. your calcium looks pretty high, how do you sustain this at 500ppm? magnesium at 1200 could do with being a little higher but not too much to worry about. your ph is a little high too, ideally between 8.0 and 8.3 what time of day did you test it to get 8.5? nitrate is high but i'm sure you know this, water changes with good salt should bring that down and level out your other params if you mix it up at 1.025, also you temp is a little on the high side. aim for 25-27 ideally. as long as its stable.

oh and people don't like xenia cos it grows like a weed :D one of those, if you haven't got it you'd love it but onceits there its a nuisance.

well mag cal and kh was low for weeks in till a constant drip feed of secham over a week i posted a help notice on how to raise them then i ws told dont just add it drip it instead and wella the temp well if i lower the heater temps drops throught the night i think the luinar seems to rise it during the day so i keep it at a steady 28

oh test was done on 16/10/06 at around 2pm i always test beetwen 2 and 4 pm with my lfs we go through it together for better results and advice all though my tank is rather basic compared to most on here but it seems to be working after some constant questions and advice
