Hi,

LFS has got a few of these in and they look lovely. But I cant find anything on them in my books. LFS is not much help with this either.

I have 6 55W T5's and was wondering if they would be ok under them and wehre abouts on the rock work would you put them?

Easy corals to keep and will thrive in most systems, mine are growing at a tremendous rate :D

Capnella Kenya Tree Coral
Capnella

A great soft coral hardy, likes good flow and moderate lighting. We always keep large numbers of these soft corals in stock. Ideal for beginners.

they grow in my tank like a weed, i literally have to trim and frag them down once a fortnight to be able to see my other corals. i would say moderate light, low to moderate flow but in reality, mine have self propogated 50 times over and are growing everywhere, right under halides, down the bottom, behind rocks in the dark, everywhere.

Agree with scoob, I have them sprouting everywhere, High light, no light, good flow, no flow etc etc.

I agree - I have one that grows about an inch a fortnight. I normally let it get pretty big then lop off a branch and trade the big bit. The bit I now have is a frag of a frag of a frag of a frag - and it was a frag when I bought it!

Mine's a gold one - anyone got anyother coloured ones that they'd be interested swapping by mail?

mmmm - sounds interesting! - not sure how well xenia travels though....

Give me a week or two and I'll do you a 2" frag of gold bush and a 10 head frag of red sea xenia (each attached to rock) for a bit of pink and a bit of purple - deal?

I read once that the capnella was a frag farmers biggest earner, but wasnt sure it was correct but now looking at the above I can see why!

Thanks guys, seems to be split on whether it needs feeding or not though. I do feed the tank cyclopeze and marine snow every day. would that be sufficient.

I think so - I think they do fine without feeding anyway - sand stirring may help as has already been mentioned.

i had one of these in my old 5 footer in was in the centre of the tank and it took over the tank well it would have if i didnt cut it back weekly with a pair of scissors i gave up fragging it and just ended up bining the branches.
My clowns used to host in it aswell lovely coral but they grow too fast and big for my liking.

I got mine from a local lfs as a freebie.
He'd just had a delivery of live rock, and the box was open on the shop floor.
I remarked that there was a fair bit of dead livestock attached to it, and he said, nah those things are bomb proof. Yes, it was a kenya tree coral.
It had just been shipped in a box of live rock, with no water, in the dark from god knows what country, and within an hour it was looking good as gold in my tank . lol

I was recommended to feed with cyclopeez so going to dose the tank daily with this, see how it goes. I am sure you will be fine but also heard they like phytoplankton (sp.) Good luck mate. Good to hear they are hardy too!

i wouldn't feed daily with cyclopeeze, could play havoc with your parameters. every few days should do it if you are adamant you want to feed seperately.

Scoob,

Thanks for the advice. I will just have an experiment and feed every so often with it and see how i go. Will post some pics up next week when all has settled and my new fish go in.

Cheers

i fragged 3 large 'trees' night before last. cut the stem with scissors down to less than a cm off the rock surface. i will try and get some photos when the lights are on and perhaps a daily progress report. i estimate by sunday the trunk will be about 2 inches again, by next wednesday i'll have polyps appearing and by next sunday i imagine they will be little trees again, i just can't keep it down.

last time i had a major prune i sent a box full up to dan the man, he's supposed to be sending me another box so i haven't got the shears out apart from night before last. i hope he gets his act together soon, there'll be no room for fish soon :D ;)
