I have had an acro for 4 days now and my tank parameters are bang on but my acro appears to be peeling away to leave the dead skeletal structure.
Is there anything I can do to stop this?

you can try fragging it but chances are not looking good! Something must have stressed it, transport, acclimatisation, water chemistry?

To help we really need as much info as you can give ,plus a picure would be great :)

ive copied this from the newbie section,

Water parameters:
SG, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate readings can be handy.
For coral or water quality queries, you could add calcium, magnesium and alkalinity/KH (and units ppm or meq/l).

System:
Tank size, lighting, flow, filtration, skimmer, amount of live rock.
If there is a sump, its size and contents.
How long has the tank been set up?
A picture of the tank often helps.

Its all gone bleeched and peeled overnight.:( During the day they were fine.
Is there any reason why it would happen during the night?

I'm running kalk overnight to maintain the correct levels in the tank.

if your not running a skimmer, have you checked protien/organics, i have a mate who runs a mud system, he wanted to start trying sps so i gave him some frags, and he lost the lot:( , he now has a skimmer:rolleyes: , wouldnt of thought it would kill acro's but if the levels are high it wont help, the leng sey mud system with all the sps, i'm not conviced i think he may be using the zeovit method:confused: seemed odd when i was at glee all of the refugiums they were showing now have skimmers on:confused:

I think the point Peter was making, is that MM systems main advertising ploy was always that you 'dont' need a skimmer. It seems they have come full circle, so it begs the question, what actually 'are' the benifits and does it jusify the extra costs, if your going to backtrack on the origional desighn principle and change it back to whats basically, a sand bed based Berlin system.

Si.

To happen this quick, its usually exessive osmotic shock, temperature, or light shock......

I went to buy a skimmer from my LFS and they said I don't need one as I'm running a mud system.

So what do you guys think I should do?

personally with sps i'd always skim, in my new set up i'm skimming 24/7 and the colours are a lot more vibrant, in my last system i skimmed every 12hrs out of 24, all was good and lived for 4yrs before i broke the system down and upgraded and sold all the stock, the acro's were ok but a lot duller:o

What is your system 'telling' you...? :)

I'd do some reading personally.
If you search on here for MM and skimmers you'll find plenty of info to help you make a decision.

My tuppence worth is that its a waste of money, although a friend of mine ran one very successfully for a while and he had a huge amount of micro life in his sump. Whether he could've achieved the same with a sand bed, who knows? my guess wiuld be yes but it is just that, a guess :)

Any links for DIY skimmers as I would like to make my own?

i had mm and never skimmed then added the skimmer before they said use one and found the benefits outweighed any other consideration.

you will really struggle to keep acros using a 20k 150w lamp, you just dont get the PAR needed, i tried and struggled even with acros just under the surface. I swapped this for a 10k bulb and had much better success
