View Full Version : Wetmorella
Hi all,
I have just got a nice Pygmy Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella Nigropinnata) but it looks like it has white spot.
Not a problem as it's in QT at the moment but I was wondering if it's okay to treat this species with copper?
Cheers,
Campbell
use a complex copper like seachem cupramine the copper is tied to an organic making it less toxic to fish works well. I think they rcommend for 14 days at 5ppm. Try it at this level for a few days it usually goes within 48hrs, over a few days I would also lower the SG to around 1.18 if a severe case this will aid recovery.
Not the most tolerant fish to copper treatment I'd suggest keeping the dose low around 0.15ppm.
Also they are not an effective osmoregulators so I wouldn't recommend dropping the salinity in this case.
you could be right wombat but the biggest lfs chain in the country have loads of different sepcies of fish running at an SG of 1.17-1.18.
Honestly there fish are brighter and healthier than any fish I've seen at an LFS.
If you look at them closely they have few parasites. I even asked the assistant to prove the SG so he got his refractor out, 1.18
Also I have kept 2 acanthurus tangs with cupramine for 10 days at a level of 0.4 ppm but again its a complex copper bounded with an organic which may be different to other medications and less toxic
Regards

sorry wombat, non if any parasites. Do you always jump on everything I say:confused:
Nope
(for example I haven't corrected the error in salinity you quote in this post where you state values of 1.17-1.18 for a commercial outlet which is about 10 times higher that you would want to have in a reef tank)
cheers mate 1.017 I stand corrected. Cheers mate I'm always forgetting that 0
Thanks for the info guys.
I have been watching her closely and the cysts dropped off in the last day or so.
However, I did do a water change and took the cave she hides in out and underneath, where she sleeps, I found these stuck to the glass. Definetly stuck as they did not come off when I tried ran the syphon tube over them.
Not a great pic but that's the cameras maximum macro zoom. So what do you think, Cryptocaryon tomonts?

But that's right "they have few parasites" means not many, if any, parasites.
Now if you said "a few parasites" that'd mean parasites are present, perhaps in considerable numbers.
same as:
Few people will miss him when he leaves.
A few people will miiss him when he leaves.
:D
lol, just thought I'd throw that in. I guess that where Lawyers make the cash. lol!!!!
