Just an addition to the 'What volume is your system poll' (if you havent voted yet, get your bum over there http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=192977 ;) )...
So the question is how long has your 'current' system been running in its present incarnation.
Minor Modifications/ additions are allowed but we are looking at the age of the bulk of the system without major stripdowns etc.
(i cant vote on this one as im mid way through a new build, although my old system ran for approx 3 yrs before being ripped down to make way.)

Cant wait to see which old codger ends up in the 11+ bracket...:D
Wheres Andy Hipkiss when you need him..:)
Would have put mine in that bracket (11.5 years old), however i had a strip down and rebuild when i moved house 4.5 years ago so i guess it don't count...

do you have any pics from just before it was stripped (i take it that would have put it at the 6 yr old mark if im guessing right)?

Si.
Yes i am sure i can dig some out, it did also in the six months after the move go from softie to SPS....
Cheers,
Chris
P.S. Where shall i post them on this thread ?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.... It's taken me all this time to search through old photos to try and find some tank images from 5 years ago (Pre move)....
Here are a few that i have found.
These were taken in March 2001. Sorry but i can't find a complete tank shot (yet)

I will post some pictures of my tank how it loogs these days in the correct forum when i have time..
Are these threads a subtle way of judging "your tank, your reputation"?

Nope nothing to do with that to be honest.
But i was thinking of putting some of the figures together to see what sort of trends show up....if any..:D
CD, looks realy healthy do you stil have any of the origional stock left over..?:)

si.,
hope you don't mind Si, but I just think its worth emphasizing the orginal question in case anyone has misinterpreted it - How long has your current system been running?

yes valid point there clippo. Cd had voted in the shorter bracket to account for the fact this system was stripped.
So remember folks, its your 'current' system..:)

Si.
Interesting question Si about the original stock.
All accept the Yellow and Purple Tang (Not shown in pic) were lost due to a builder ..........
We had some building work done to the old house before we moved and he managed to kill just about all the fish when he knocked the mains off for 3 days when we were away :(
The other interesting thing is that the tank was run without half the techno mumbo jumbo it has these days and a just a small skimmer with loads of live rock, and lots of T8 tubes. It was easier to maintain than it is these days  There's a lesson in there somewhere.......

Theres a lesson in there somewhere.......
most deffinately... god knows how i used to keep half of the stuff i used to 10 or 15 yrs ago..
Large blue ring angel, bubble tip anemone and clarkii clowns.. all on UGF...later went all high tech and reversed it to RFUGF...:D

Is the poll not asking about "CURRENT" system ? :p
OOPPS did not see CLIPPO's post
Yes it is,
but Si was just interested in how it was in the old days !
are there some people who have more than one tank running on here too? - I'm looking at some peoples tank threads and they don't seem to make sense...

6 months logged...........upgrade from a smaller system that was running for a year...which was an upgrade etc. etc.
i posted in the 2-3 years bracket as i brought the tank from a shop that they used it as there display tank, brought equipment and water and put my own rock and fish from my old system so if that does not count then it would have to be the 1-2 year bracket for me and please move me if its wrong.

Just seen this, Si are you calling me an old codger!! I'm only fifty I,v got four grand children and been keeping marines for 14 years might make me an old fool, not an old codger pleeeeeese. you do know how to hurt a mans feelings.

one of the reasons I suggested this poll was so I could look at systems of a similar age to mine and identify any problems that I might encounter - old tank syndrome and all that. As such I've been looking back through post histories when I've had chance. The one thing I have noticed is, unless I am getting confused, there are certain tanks listed that are actually younger than stated. It's quite simple to work out the age of your tank and the categories are pretty clear! you know who you are!
this was my step back into the hobby so its only been running about 10 months now but ive already got a bigger tank to set up
Current system been running for 1year,but was upgradded from a 40"system that was 4years old.
It's right about my current system's first birthday now :D
Happy birthday fish tank :p :o
Hi All
Mine in its present state was set up in June 2000, Have added and removed bits as you do.
But its still going and not looking to sad.
Nitrates are still high, Fish are pissed on Vodka but eventually they will be got under control.
Happy Reefkeeping
Andy
any chance of a tank pic Gregb?
Hi guy's
mine, meets this month in 14 years and has had only a reset, remove the plenum to be left without sand and went for the change of home, but even so the decor was almost like.
as upload vote?
this poll ran over 2 years ago and is no longer open.
Blimey a blast from the past on this poll, can i vote again as i have re-stripped my setup in the last 6 months.
Only 5% of voters have systems 5 years old or more.
makes me think that perhaps the large majority quit in the first couple of years or maybe there is a renewed surge of intrest in marines?
I have not even set mine up yet, been keeping tropical planted aqauriums for over 15 years.
Having said that none of my aquariums last longer than 5 years because i keep upgrading. :P
