View Full Version : Fragging Zoos
Hi there folks, having seen the various threads regardiong swapping zoo's etc I just wondered how you folks go about it. Have various colour morphs, nothing special, but would like to frag a few for the marine club and father-in-law.
Thanks
Mark
absolute doddle, probably one of the easiest corals to frag
nice little linky for you!!!

ps see you on the zoo swaps thread!!
i put the rubbers on before i start and i use a modelers scalpal to slice a slither of rock under the zoa matting and then cut between polyps from above to remove a few polyps at a time and drop them into a small container of tank water whilst i trim others etc then once finished trimming off wat i want i place the zoa back in tank, by cutting a slither of rock you are not stressing the zoa so much plus when gluing you are gluing rock to rock so this also doesnt stress zoa with the burn of glue as it quickly sets. various glues are used, some use supa glue gel which is thicker so easy to apply a blob for join,
next bit is to just dab dry with kitchin towel the underneath of the zoa polyps and the bit of rock your sticking it to then add a small blob of glue to rock rubble and lightly place polyps onto it then place frag into another container of tank water to set glue.
once all frags glues up place them low in your tank in a low flow area, (i have frag tank for mine) a good time to frag is just before lights out as bright lights on your polyps will be forcing them to try open which due to the activaty they just been through it would be best to give them a night time to adjust/settle again in darkness.
its really a very simple procedure and doesnt take long, i fill 3 small containers of tank water and
place mother zoa in one of them before i start.
2nd container for polyps i trim off,
3rd container to place frags after gluing stage,
you dont have to panic or rush as zoa's are generally very hardy, i do dip the mother colony in 1st container from time to time in between trimming just to keep it wet.
