My clowns have being going about their spawning cycle now for about 8 weeks now. The last few spawns have produced thin larvae, which subsequently haven't survived past day 6. I've been feeding the parents a varied diet and was hoping to see what would be produced this time around.

Wednesday came and went, without any egg laying and I am now worried that they might not lay again.

Parameters are all OK, however there was a dip in temperature at the time when the eggs would have being laid. Tank temp went down to 22 rather then the stabe 25-26 which it usually had being.

Could this have caused the pause and will the parents now wait until the next cycle spawn?? I think I just need reassurance that all will be fine.

Oh well at least I can cultivate more bottles of rotifers.

Sorry for the longwindedness

Well after all of that the pair have laid a fresh batch of eggs in a new spot. My next problem that I have though is that the eggs are very pale rather then the vibrant orange they used to be.

Any ideas anyone???

Hi,

I had the same problem and the solution was to saturate feed the parents between spawns with Omega 3 brine shrimp. This worked for me and the quality of the larvae showed a marked improvement.

It seems that when the parent first start spawning the quality of the larvae is good but then they start to detoriate over time with successive spawnings as the nutrient levels in the female gets depleted.

You will have to feed her as much as she will take so be careful with the water quality.

may i suggest keeping the parents well fed and soaking frozen food with fish vits for 2-3 hours min . good varied diet should see them well
