Hi people.
I’ve only just joined the forum to post but have been using it for well over a year for research and reference. Got round to joining so here’s my nano.
Its nothing special (unlike A LOT on here!) just something I wanted to do before spending big ££££ on a reef that I may not like or get into (Although even this simple set up cost a bit!). I can honestly say the bug has bitten and I love SW reefs!! I’m currently planning a 3x2x20” Which is going to be built as soon as we move probably around January.

Anyway Nano specs
Display: old Jewel 70l
Lighting; 2 x 55 watt power compacts with 2x 12” cold cathode blues for moon effect, All lights are on timers. All housed in a custom hood.
Water flow: 2x Maxijet 800’s and 1x Maxijet 600.
Skimmer: Due to the size of the tank a Prism (Yes I know but it does the job on my set up!)
LR/Sand: Of hand I think around 7KG of LR and a thin layer of sand.
Heating and cooling: 50 watt heater built in thermostat, I also have 2x 8cm PC fans which come on with the main lights and go off when they go off.

Occupants:
2x Clowns (tank bred)
1x Half and half (false royal gramma)
1x chalk goby
Various hermits and snails

Coral:
Xenia (getting out of hand!)
3x Zoanthid colony’s (neon green, orange and green)
2x colony’s of Yellow polyps
1x colony of green star polyp.
2x colony’s of neon blue spotted mushroom’s
1x rather large Kenya tree
1x Torch coral with a few heads.
1x Pineapple LPS

Care of system: The temperature stays around the 77 mark, I loosed approximately 600mm a day from evaporation this is topped up daily manually.
I also perform a 15 litre water change very 10 days at a guess about 1/3 of the actual water volume. I don’t dose anything, I like to keep things simple!

Here’s some pics if I can get them to upload! From the build to a month or so ago:

Nice little tank, what do you plan to do with it stock wise over the next few months? Are you going to keep as is or is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks,
To be honest Tony, Im moving soon (As soon as we sell ours!) So Ill be upgrading so at the moment stock is staying as it is unless there is a small frag at the LFS. As i am outa room!
Stock will be transfered into new set up, With Lots of new additions, wont be for some time though.

Thanks ThomJ,
As ivepreviously said in another post. This was done after avery well repected SW LFS told me that no way could i keep a nano as my first Sw set up. Ilike to prove people wrong and dont use that store anymore!
I think aslong as you are dedicated and do LOADS of research anything can be done.
Although i agree keeping a nano stable does take abit of work and maybe if i would have had the room and money i would have gone larger in the first place. Once my new set up is done i may convert this to a seahorse tank or something. Thanks again for the kind comments.

agree 100% .....too many people near the top of the hobby like to suggest the distance between them and "normal humans" is vast - in reality much of it is no more than a bit of reading up and common sense. Add to that the fact that many topics are pretty "grey" in this hobby anyway and theres no reason why a sensible newbie with a good budget and the internet cant achive good results.

Really like the tank, im sure the upgrade will be all the better now you have some hands on experience.

What do you plan to stock in your upgrade, mainly softies or some sps?

Thanks for the kind comments, Sorry no updates. Ive been saving for the new set up :)
Just keeping it looking as it is. No plans on any more live stock until the new reef is built. Although i was thinking of turning this into a seahorse tank....
Thanks again
