Is there a way of obtaining one aside from the obvious of having your LFS try and get you one?

I am about to give a deposit to my LFS who say that TMC are after some right now but it could still be some time yet (although i would be on the list to have one when they do get them). Just wondered if there was an alternative option for locating one?

Also - how are they with more than one? (may not be able to get more than 1 at the same time so might not be relevant) Many people seem to keep yellows in groups so are gems similar? (same tang family of course)

Change of plans then? :p

tangs are great but nothing shatters the "ohhh, im in the sea" illusion more than seeing a fish that behaves a certain way BECAUSE its in a tank. For example, a clown in nem may as well be in the sea as a tank (visually), it makes no odds....but a tang is constantly turning BECAUSE its in a tank.

not sure i will add any more tangs...either way they will live in the sump for now so i can always test them with other tangs to see how they get on ...right now they are all in seperate tanks within the sump system so no issues for now.

must say - even in the dark with their pale colours - they look pretty cool :D

lol...people will say "nice tank mate.....but Tiggs did that ages ago" ;)

i asked Bob for 5 but took the 3 as the german seller said they may not see more than one again for ages.

also with 3 in a good size tank (my cube has had to be altered to a 6ft long 3ft tall to allow for the tangs) the idea is you wont see them all at first as you would with a bigger group.......but then you'll notice one...then another...and another :D Also allows me to include some other good size fish as well. 5 tangs + is a big bio load and i want plenty of other fish as well :D

What size are they Tiggs?

Tiggsy
30-11-06, 00:01
i'm rubbish at sizes! i suppose about 3 1/2 inch?

they are perfect size for me- some growing to do but not too small and frail (i hope!)

just done in a rush....tank is filthy (the outside glass) so not the best but you get the idea - will do some more later when they are less shy (this one was the boldest but kept diving into the LR when i got near!)

really gorgeous fish, although most tangs are. And I think you're mad paying £500 each for them.

they certainly are nice tiggsy

it will be intwersting to see how bold they become with time :D

bob's one seems fairly active

Tiggsy
30-11-06, 22:41
they are getting bolder in leaps and bounds!

this morning they would hide when i entered the fish room - tonight they were ripping the veggie flake from my fingers as i dunked it to make it sink :D

only thing is they are not touching the nori ??? vegie flake and meaty foods they are wolfing down - ignoring the nori though.

should add - if you havent seen one in the flesh the pics do them little justice....when they go into full "sail fin" display the mix of subtle colours is amazing, greens and reds......very errr...gem like!

Beautiful. I think 500 quid each aint too bad when you consider how much they're willing to pay across the water.

lol - rather amusing to see them posting on my thread on RC considering the fuss some make over here about them getting all the best corals....at least we get the nice fish! a trio of gems over there would be getting on for $10,000!

Stunning and imo, not a bad price. Just look at Koi if you think marines are top heavy on £ ;)

Hope they settle in well :) I'm sure they will under your care Tiggsy

Agreed £500 does seem to be a good price. If anything i think the price has drop a few £100 on them in the last year or so... When i looked into them about a year ago you were talking at least £750...

Great fish, i have planned on putting one in my tank for a while now. Once i get Xmas out the way and the sump changes i am making to my tank, i think i will start to put the feelers out for one.

Cheers,

Chris
