View Full Version : Dwarf angel.
Would a dwarf angel (flame/bicolor) be ok in my Aquamedic Chromis? Is he tank big enough for them?
Currently have a zebra goby and a pair of percs.
Your tank is in theory big enough for a number of dwarf species eg. Flame, Coral Beauty or Eibl, doubtful if big enough for a bicolor though according to some experts. There may be increased aggro from having confined space, and your goby in particular may have a hard time.
a pacific pygmy angel (Centropyge flavicauda ) would probably be a good candidate for a chromis
I have 3 dwarf angels (Heraldii, Coral Beauty, Flame), a Kole Tang, a Black Capped Gramma, and 2 Percula Clowns in my Perc90 tank, which have lived happily together for over a year. This seems to be about the right stocking level, and I don't need to struggle too hard to keep nitrates under control.
Four fish would be about right for a Chromis, though not the Bicolor as it grows larger (6"). I'd suggest a Flame (Centropyge loricula) or a Coral Beauty (Centropyge bispinosa). Either can be a bit aggressive, depending on the individual, but should be ok as the last fish added. Any initial aggro should calm down eventually.

Might be an idea just to stop and consider any other fish which you might be introducing so you can make the angel the last one in - might minimise aggression.
i had a coral beauty which never touched any of my corals...or at least i never caught it

a small dwarf angel should be okay but not a bicolour.there are plenty to choose from but as previously said put him in last.derek
Go for the Flameback angel C. acanthrops. These are wonderful little fish and IMO and experinece the best dwarf angels to keep. I have kept them in spawning pairs and they can be sexed by body shape. I would say you could keep a pair of them in your chromis and I may well do when mine is up and running. heres a pic of one.

i have a coral beauty you may get away with one of those but like others say add this kind of fish last.
