Hi

I have a mushroom (type I haven't seen anywhere else) which closely resembly the rocks it lives on - it is a mottled green/white colour and extremely camouflaged. Recently it has had what looks like spaghetti worms coming out of it's mouth. This is an infrequent event, every few days and usually corresponds with my goby dropping sand on it. The worm type things only come out for about 5 minutes or so, and the mushroom shrinks into a ball. After 5 minutes it opens back up as if nothing happened.

1. Are these parasites?
2. If so, should I just bin the mushroom
3. Is this a normal mushroom response to something it doesn't like landing on it, none of my other mushrooms do this, but as I said, this one is different in terms of camouflage markings.

any help gratefully appreciated

Have you a picture of the "Mushroom" in question?

Will try to get one, problem is last night when it was doing it, it was closing up. The other problem is that it is difficult top spot against the rock background.

Don't bin the Mushroom. Its not somthing I have seen with my Mushroom's, hower there is always a first time (LOL), a picture will help to identify what you have (mushroom or not).

Will try to get a picture on tonight. It looks like a mushroom but is mottled green/grey/rock colour. It also has different textures on it, bit like a fuzzy mushroom but not fuzzy in all places, v.well camouflaged.
It behaves like a mushroom.

What you saw coming out of the mouth is probably where its expelling any crud built up inside, mine do it from time to time after a heavy rearrange of rockwork :)

When mushrooms get disturbed you will see them expell stringy threads from theirs mouths, normal if occasional as when sand gets blown onto it and will return to normal.
Havent seen this regarding poor water parameters just physical contact.

cheers all, that sounds exactly like it. I will stop fretting, it looks fine now, I've moved it up the rockwork away from the sand
