View Full Version : Candy Cane Coral, what to feed???
ive bought a stunning frag of a candy cane coral the other day.
Has anybody got 1 or know what they like to be fed on the most???
i already feed phyto and cyclopeze plus the usual frozen mixed foods.
You can try target feeding it at night using a 2l plastic bottle and mixing up a nice meaty fare but make sure its chopped up and no big chunks. They are slow feeders. Phyto wont really do much for this coral, its mainly for the softies and pod population. You can put a light coat of cyclopeeze on the food prior to target feeding as well. Just simply add the food and allow it to drift down to the heads, they will soon close up and munch away.
Do you really need to target feed Candy Canes?

I've never fed mine. It's growing and dividing like mad.

Take a look at it after lights out, you should see the feeding tenticles extended. They sometimes look as though the head is turning inside out.

Yes - when I feed mine the heads swell up then fold in on themselves trapping food in the centre bit. A bit like the petals of a flower closing.
I feed mine when they are looking a bit sorry for themselves (not so plump looking or a bit retracted). When I got the coral as a frag a few heads were retracted and i was advised to feed to help it recover (so I did and it did) :)
(Stevielad) what did you feed it?
i did notice last night for the 1st time last night the tentacles coming out:D

Tend to feed a mix of whatever i have - (frozen) mysis, (dry) cyclopeeze, coral vibrance and a green frozen phyto cube mix who's name i cant remember! Feeding at lights out is definitely best - but you can encourage the feeding tentacles to come out by pipetting a bit of food over them.
