OK, some help,

Background - 4x2x2 - twin 150's.

Other hard corals include (Bubble, Hammer, Trumpet), all of these are looking good and seem to be growing.

My torch is not (it is ok, but does not seem to thrive) , it is located a third from bottom of tank, its not near anything (ie other coral's), (not in direct flow (I have 2 Tunze 6000 on controllers for circ).

My question is :- is there somthing specific this coral may require (note the fact that the other corals are growing).

Thanks in advance

Ian

Thank you for the reply.

I assume, they are not light loving (i.e no higher up in the tank?),

So will try it on mysis, ect.

I would like it to grow, as my clowns love it (maybe thats the problem?)

how long you had it ??, mines lit by power compacts not halides, initially it sulked but now its happy as hell, or seems to be, rio 400 and in the bottom third of the tank, i do target feed it weekly though

what's your dkh, mag and calc readings? I don't target feed mine, and it seems to be doing fine (touch wood). It does seem to get food at feeding time

Hi Gregh,

Why would these be relevant?, given the rest of my hard corals are 'A' OK

I would assume, if there was a imbalance, then they would also suffer.

NB Hows you new tank looking - bet you are dead chuffed - a real stunner.

why would they not be relevant, some corals are more tolerant to certain conditions then others, it would do no harm to post them!

Tank is going thru a mini bloom at the moment, but I got some nice colourful frags, which if they take off should look good!

regards,

Greg

Point taken Greg.

If your old bow is anything to go by - the new one will be awesome :)

My torch is 4 inches from surface, directly udner a 150 halide. Alk, Mg and Ca have been extremely low for a few months, but still the thing grows and grows.
Maybe light is more important than most people say? Now my levels are being brought back to where they should be, I may have to frag this coral before it takes over..

Mines also the same as yours but maybe a move and direct feeding a little might help to perk it up again.

My torch is always the first thing to show signs of stress if I don't keep my alkalinity levels up, even if all my other hard corals look fine. It sits in the bottom third of my 26 inch deep tank under 150 halides.

I don't know about mysis, but mine will eat as much cocktail prawn in one sitting as it can get hold of! I chop small prawns into about half a doezen pieces and feed it with long tweezers. God knows where it stuffs it all, but it will keep eating until I either get bored or my arm gives out from hanging over the tank.

Same as other folks, it's getting a bit too big!

If you are target feeding these when would you do it. I have tried to feed mine but cannot get it to hold onto any food.

The problem is your clowns causing the torch to recede. You can mimic this with a tank scraper / baster etc.

They sense the clowns as an aggressor and withdraw for protection. This causes the coral to starve.

Bet your tests are fine .......

FWIW - I have mine on the base of a 2ft deep tank under 150w halides. I don't target feed the coral and it looks great.

I'd agree with LTD and think you yourself hit the nail on the head. Although the clowns will adopt surrogate hosts, the host doesn't always relish the attention and in extreme cases the fish cause it to withdraw enough to kill it.

Hi John,

Well its true my clowns love the torch, it did have 5 heads to start with (I have it a little over a year now) and now I have one head left.

I suppose I have to accept the fact that my clowns ain't going to move, so not sure what options I have (re-home the torch maybe).

hi richard:wave:
can you reach it? if you have a bit of reef putty you can secure it to
a bit of live rock or if you have a sand bed stick it in there.

my clowns have hosted mine too and dont brush up in it like they do in nems but they do sleep in it, it extends about 3 inches, but can extend 6 maybe more but havent seen it do that in ages :( perhaps its because of my clowns :(.

he doesnt seem to be dieing bak tho,

wen u say direct feeding do u mean put the food on the mouth? or justto the polyps?
