Ive bought a 24g nano cube from cyber aquatics and I am in the middle of planning the set up and mods.
So far Ive come up with that I want to keep the bags of carbon and cermaic for chamber 1, in chamber 2 L/R rubble (5lbs) and a sub aqua one halogen light (10w), chamber 3 100w heater and the supplied pump.
Im going to have 7kg of L/R at setup.
I also want a small powerhead to place in the main tank at the same side as the filter intake but below it, any suggestions on a really small sized one (I think I read somewhere about a microjet??? to help circulation)
Has any one bought the surface skimmer that is available for the nano cube from the US for $6 or anyone make their own?

How does this set-up sound, Im open to any suggestions, Im new to this but more than willing to learn.

Once I get my new house decorated I will post pics of the set-up and progress when I start.

I have the 8 gallon one and have upgraded lighting and the pump. I have approximately 35 - 40 x turnover. Therefore I had no need to put a powerhead in. I replaced the supplied pump with a compact eheim 1000...totally recommend as so small but so much power. Plus they are so cheap £16.99 where as a New jet is £30 + !!!!!!!

I also removed the supplied oulet nozzle with a hydro turning one. However I have removed this now, as I seem to get better chaotic flow without!

In my first compartment I have removed one sponge and added some calerupa. Enough light gets through the weir to aloow growth. In the second I have live rubble and carbon. ( going to add a bag of Phosphate remover soon) and in the final rent section I have heater pump and bio balls.

Hope this helps.

Ben

p.s Im looking for a cheap lunar light at the mo any ideas?

Depending on what you want to keep you may need to upgrade the lights as the cyber one has 24w whereas the D&D 72w.

I swapped out the std pump for 1 mj1200 straight swap. ans used std pump in ch1 back into to tank to keep kit out of display. Was thinking of a nano stream but think may be too big physically to fit behind my rock work. I've now ordered one of these Tunze Universal pump Mini 5024.04 (http://www.onlineaquariumstore.com/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eonlineaquar iumstore%2ecom%2facatalog%2fOnlineAquariumStore_Tu nze_Spares_228%2ehtml&WD=mini%20pump&SHOP=%20&PN=OnlineAquariumStore_Tunze_Spares_228%2ehtml%23a 3247#a3247) 300lph and only about 2x2x2" really tiny so I'll see what its like and maybe add another on a wavemaker.

You can make a comb for the weir using an old video cassette case, its on the us forums think thats where JBL got idea.

Chambers as follows (ditched all supplied media)

think you may find the rings will lead to nitrate probs??

1 filter floss used egg crate to provide shelf just under weir (rinsed every 2 days changed weekly)rowaphos, purigen std pump, pH and temp probes

2 lr rubble chaeto lit by 2x3white superflux leds on reverse cycle

3 100w heater float for auto top up

I put in a cold cathode (aesthetic) and have automated moonlights so as to get 3 stage dimming

heres mine after 7 weeks

I'm not sure what youd get away with, zoas and shrooms perhaps some softies but unsure as to which ones - someone on her will advise
