If you have had whitespot in the system and you have never removed the fish for treatment chances are it will still be there.

White spot is possible to eradicate from a system only if you quarantine all fish, leave your main tank fallow for 4-6 weeks. Do water changes vac substrate and add a UV as a precaution. I do not add any fish to my main system before quarantine and low level copper treatment and an SG of 1.018, I ensure there feeding well and show no sign of parasites before adding to display tank.

I now also run a UV to prevent disease outbreaks of any kind in the main tank.

Nothing risky what so ever if you use a good medication in a seperate hospital tank. The best copper tretment is cupramine from seachem by a mile, its bound to an organic supposedly far less toxic to fish.

I have used it a few times and the whitespot goes quickly with correct dose. I have also used it on tangs including my powder blue who is now itch free.

I'd leave it at least 6-8 weeks and watch the other occupants for symptoms.

Certainly ozone or UV on the main tank will improve the bioecurity
