The great thing about reef tanks is just when you think you know your system like the back of your hand, and you believe you know EVERY inhabitant in your tank - it rebels and says ....... "ermmm.... i don't think you actually do you loser!"

I was pottering around in the pico cube, shifting some bits and bobs as you do, and remembered that i had seen a small piece of rock in my cryptic area with some sponge growing on it and also a small what i thought was a clam attached. "An interesting addition to the pico" i thought.

So i placed it where i could see it and wandered off to do a bit revision. When i came back it was gone, "bugger" thought i, it must have detached itself and got blown away by the strong current i have going through there. So i hunted for it, found it andput it back in a place where i hoped it would have more shelter and reattach. Anyway i continued to potter about and to my amazement this is what i saw

The vid is about 2 mins long, the action is over when it comes to rest in the left hand corner, so you can switch off after that ;)

Here are some a couple more .....

Itis a hitchiker scallop/bivalve, that has been in there for God knows how long. The ironic thing is, i really like the old flame scallops that are for sale, but would never buy one because they allegedly don't last very long - however, i haven't bought any live rock for ........ months and months now, so this little bad boy seems to be fine :urock:

Wicked!

I put the little fella back into the cryptic area and he bounced off again :D

Had one very similar, if not the same, a few years ago when setting up a previous tank - fell out of the new live-rock when aquascaping initially and kept us amused for several weeks with its flapping around the tank. Disappeared after that though - perhaps insufficient food of the right sort?

Cool videos though!

My tank is just cycling and I've noticed several white scallop shaped shells on the water surface. Thought it was sand stuck to the side of the tank at first until I took one out for close inspection. Tried to flick it back into the tank but the shell split in half with a mushie bit inside..I guess it was a baby scallop or something.

LOL, no idea when they will grow..they seem to like the edges of my tank at the moment. Will keep an eye on them :) Might try and take a picture of them..they are tiny though!
