Hey all, I was after some advice about getting an anemone. I did keep one for around a year until I got fed up with it wandering around the tank. Basically I was thinking of getting a sand anemone. Is this wise? what's the alternative? My perc's currently reside in my green hammer which isn't ideal. I need to give them a proper home!

Hi,
A couple of points - the first one being that there is absolutely no guarantee your Percs will take up residence in an anemone if you introduce one to your tank.
The second point is that anemones wander when they are not happy with their location - if all their requirements are met, they can stay in the same place for many years. So it's worth asking yourself why your previous anemone never stayed put :)
There's lots of good advice on keeping anemones in the FAQ at the top of this section of the board.
Hope that helps.

I don't think getting the perc's into a nem will a problem, they took to the last one I had within a couple of hours of it being in the tank, the only problem was that a domino damsel I had at the time also took a shine to it and I'm sure you know who won that fight!! As for the nem wandering I think it was after a spot with good water flow only they were all taken! I was really wanting to find out about sand anemones as I have plenty of space with good flow, anyone out ther had one-got one, what kind? a few names would be good so that I can try and find some pic's and info.
Thanks

if your percs are wild there should be no problem in them going into certain anemones but if they are captive bred ones like mine they wont go anywhere near any of my anemones.in the wild there main anemone they reside in is heteractis magnifica but your tank has insufficient light to keep one of these.they would go in a carpet anemone but probally not in a sand anemone,as your lghting is only 150w this would not be enough to keep a sand anemone .the only problem as you have already stated is they can move about and sting everthing in your tank.derek
