View Full Version : BTA Vs Mushrooms?

My bta recently moved 4" to the left and settled nicely on a piece of live rock. He seems very happy but I'm a little concerned about the 10 or so metalic green mushrooms he's settled on top of... obviously it would be nice if he would move again to somewhere more suitable, I've heard of the ice cube trick and the gently stroking, - yes I'm still talking about the nem, but I don't want to stress him unless necessary. Should I just leave him alone for a day or so and if I do what will happen to the mushies?
thanks - Andy.
If your BTA decides to sting.....wave goodby to the shrooms I'm afraid.
I'm sure you appreciate that you can't position a nem where you want; the nem chooses it's location. By adding one to your tank, you need to assume the worst; it could sit right next to your fav coral and kill it.
If it's not happy in the tank, it will keep walking and stinging as it goes along. Reasons for it not being happy are flow (too much too little) light (too much, but more than likely too little) or water chemistry that is not stable (an auto top up is abso essential imo).
Can you not move some or all of the shrooms? Pull them off the rock and re-attach them?

I angled the rock hoping that might make him less comfortable, this morning he has siddled off it and sitting nicely nearby. I've moved the shroom rock away and will just have to wait and see if they have suffered any. He's only been here a few days so hopefully will settle soon.:) Andy.

your anemone is not happy if it keeps moving about,if you have a lot of corals in the tank it will sting the lot.i usually add anemones first in the tank and let them find a good spot themselves.the leave them for a few weeks to see if they move about before adding anything else.they can sit in one place for years then move for no reason at all,its a chance you take with a mixed tank.i have 5 anemones in my tank but no corals just fish.derek
