Hi everyone

I used to have a big (relatively) 180 gallon reef tank with corals, clams and seahorses but let it go as maintenance was getting out of hand. Have craved a return ever since. Am researching a nano tank to keep a few seahorses and some softies to aid withdrawal symptons. As far as I can the cyber aquatics version of the D&D nano cube with the sump added seems like a great idea for less than £200 the lot.

Does anyone have one - are they simple to set up? Is the T5 light good enough on its own. What do people with the D&D original think?

All opinions very gratefullr received

I think the Cyber one has 24w of PC lights, (sure Chris will confirm) which would be easy to upgrade. I would at least double it or add a 36w.

Although mines got the standard 72w Ive just bought another 24w which will jsut about squeeze in without too much trouble (haven't done it yet)

To add one more tube on the Cyber would be straightforward as I believe that the hoods are identical and the mounting pillars for the lamp brackets will alaready be there under the reflector wcih you may have to drill.

I increased the flow substantially on mine but you probably would'nt want to do this with a seahorse tank

Thanks both - Chris, I am going to get my other half to order this for me for christmas. I will ask her to order another 24 tube at same time - will I need anything else to fit it?

You'll need a ballast, bulb and screwdriver...

More tanks arrived today, stands oddly are arriving next week!

Hi everyone, I'm new on UR but I've been following the threads for a while and have been bitten by the dreaded 'nanobug'. I not a total novice, having kept marines about 11 years ago, but I'm finding things very different now and could do with your help.

I have just bought a D&D 24 G Nano (it hasn't arrived yet) but I want to increase the lighting. I see Rockpoolie says it's easily done, so do I just buy a replacement 24G bulb and a remote ballust?........if so, how do I attach it? This may be obvious when the tank arrives, but I'd appreciate any advice.

Also, I'm thinking of starting with uncured rock - are there any reasons why I shouldn't while I have no livestock. I've used it before, so know (roughly:) ) what to do with it.

Is a large amount of sand really necessary? I've seen tanks running successfully with just a scattering on the bottom, more for esthetic value than anything. How much, and which type, should I use?

Sooooo many questions, sorry. But please can someone help.

you may get more of a reply if you post your own thread, no being cheecky but people will be more inclined to answer your questions on a new thread. or even better stick a post in the new to marines section more people will see it there. :D
