View Full Version : Open brain (Lobophylia) question
Just got a nice brain coral from my lfs, I know most people place these on the sand and it might sound like a stupid question but in their natural habitat are they always on a sand base or do they occasionaly occur higher up in rockwork?
Just want it to look natural more than anything, I have a ledge about 4 inches from the sand it could sit on or would it look more natural on the sand bed. Both have same flow and good light. Thanks:)
I have quite afew lobo's, some are placed on the sand bed and some are placed on the rockwork. I've found them to be fine on either surface.
They all appreciate gentle water movement, so do not place them in the direct flow of powerheads/pump outlets.
I've found them very adapable to different light levels, but keep them away from zoo's. I lost a lovely solid pink specimen to a small colony of zoo's that had spread onto the base of the brain coral.

Thanks for the info mate:)
Been out for a meal and a few beers with the family, come back in and its about half as big again as it was:D
Did first put it on the sand bed then changed my mind and put it on a ledge, moved a colony of star polps away from it just in case of any aggro on either part;)
Result :D Once they've settled they are lovely corals. Given afew weeks and it will be looking fantastic. Along with Trachyphyllia's they are my favourite corals.
