i had it hard at the start, i was told that all i had to do was change 2 pints of water a week when it was set up in my room by the man who sold it me.

5 hours later somthin happend in the tank killing all the live stock (it was sold to me as a mature set up. I think there could of been a ph crash.... not sure becuase i had no test kits and no spare RO to put my fish in..

i then had to clean out my tank and start again. I've learnt to much over the past 2 months! hope i will be able to help other people out now :)

Hi Adam, where abouts in Cheshire you from mate? Im from Blacon originaly but now im in North Wales.

Tank looks good.

Why do you think you are over feeding? One quick tip is rinsing your frozen food in RO before feeding, should get most of the crap off and help with the PO4.

Why cant you get the snail out mate? I would try my best as there is no point leaving it in there to rot ;)

adam.crouch
06-01-07, 11:06
i live in saughall which is right next to blacon! where bouts in n wales you live? you been to the morton garden center fish shop?

Didnt think of rinsing the frozen food.

I think the snail is under my live rock when i moved it back home from uni because i havent seen it. I'm movin bk to uni tomoro so i'll see if i can see it.

Quality mate, I know a few lads from Saughall, im in the Quay now so not far!

Yeah rinising the food will help a little, you could also try some of the New Era flake ;)

I used to get all my stuff from Moreton Park. Also try the aquatics place on the way to Northwich, just past sandiway petrol station, cant think of the name of it now!

Hi Adam,

Have you got any additional flow in the tank apart from the fluval return, I don't know much about these units, but not sure if the return flow rate would be strong enough.

Personally I would remove any sponges it the filter, they are not needed, let the Live Rock do its job properly.

Something to keep an eye on in a small tank like this is the water temp as it can rise and fall quickly due to low water volume. You temp is Ok at the moment but once the warm weather or a warm room is added to the equation the temp can easily rise to danger levels. Over 30C and things will suffer.

adam.crouch
06-01-07, 13:37
There is enough flow from the fluval, its output it 1000L per hour and my tank doesnt even have 40L in it so its got aleast 25x turnover. I'll take the sponge's out then maybe. Wanna get about another KG of live rock in there i think. I've not weighed how much is in there, might weigh it tomoro!

My tanks now been moved bk to uni!! took me about 30 mins to dismantle it then a 40 min drive and then about 20 mins to set it back up so it was only down for about and hour and half! I will get some pics sometime this week, probably after my frags off matt arrive!!

adam.crouch
01-03-07, 15:20
hey! i got about 15-20 of ebay for £3

but i only wanted one, i gave loads away!

whats that little fish shop like in mold? worth a visit??

nigeljk
01-03-07, 15:39
Don't know if you've visited yet, but 2 of UR's sponsors are within spitting distance from you.
Aqua-World is in Warrington, and well worth a visit, always something interesting to look at.
Acopora House is just outside Warrington (on the Manchester Side), Mark who runs it is *very* knowledgable.

Hows the Marine bit of the Garden Center? I originally bought my tank and setup from there!! I remember when it was just a small corner of the site, then they spent a fortune on it!

adam.crouch
01-03-07, 15:47
hey, yeah i've been to acopora house to buy some live rock. Not been to aqua world yet.

The garden centre in moreton? theyve got quite a good set up there for marines.

hi adam,

Great lookin tank. how are you getting on with your sun coral? I have one my tank which is the same as yours, see my post http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=200520 but I am currently having water quality issues with the all extra feeding and waste as a result of it, what are your levels like? are you having problems with the small volume of water we have?

Regards Paul

hey m8 awesome lookin tank man. Was just wondering about the sea squirt where did you get it? And does it do any kind of stuff? was just curious cuz i seen them on a website for the first time and knew nothing about them

i just read that ''Their defences against predators include sulphuric acid secretion and the accumulation of vanadium, a toxic heavy metal. ''

I'll have some more photos up soon! Bought some new stuff this weekend!
a yashma goby

John_s - I go the sea squirt from aquamarines in bristol for about £7 It doesnt really do much just sits there with its tubes out filtering the water...

I'll have to make sure it doesnt get stressed and nuke my tank :S
