i have a slipper coral and have had it for a month or so. it fully extends every time the lights are put on and by all means looks very healthy.

however i have just notice that in the middle of this coral, at the base the skin looks like its receding. i can see the skeleton.

do these corals split or could it just be some sort of damage.

imo sounds like damage. They need a soft sand bottom and gentle flow.

Need a picture to be sure tho ;)

it is sitting on the sand and has been since i got it. one half of it is really good and the other half doesnt look so well.

is there anything i can do or is it a case of wait and see if it manages to repair itself.

i have noticed another bit of the coral that the skeleton is staring to show through as well.

no dont think so al my other lps are doing fine. i do beleive its damaged some how as one side of the coral is doing well.

is it possible to frag the good side, would this work or would it kill the coral completely.

Need results of the following:

PO4?
NO3?
CA?
MG?
ALK?
Salinity?

And.....please...... use salifert for all tests other than PO4 (you'll need a Deltec kit for PO4). IMO any other form of test kits are a waste of time and money and little better than tasting the water yourself and gussing a result!

Hi how's the water current, it's not to strong is it?

Looking at the picture it look's to me like water current damage. Put it in a low flow area, add a bit of iodine and let's see what happens. A picture of the whole tank would help me to see the situation a bit better.

could be the flow, i have moved it to another area but dont know if thats doing any good. no many area's where i can move it with little flow.
