Hi, i have a beautiful leather coral that was doing fine fopr 2-3 days after i got it, but last nite i noticed that it going 'bald' . This mornig after the lights are on, it didnt open up, infact it closed up completely. It now looks white/pile, and I think its shredding....lots of membrane on the top layer coming off. iS HE DYING?:( :(

this is normal mate when it sheds the membrane it will be back to normal cheers gary

i bought a nice leather from a sponsor, after a few days it wilted up and turned a horrible colour and i thought it was on its way out.

a few weeks later this coral began to change colour again and turned out to be a lot bigger and brighter in colour than when i saw it in the shop.

when they are shedding like this should you increase the flow to get rid of the mucus??

i bought quite a large leather on saturday and thought it didnt like my tank but to much relief it opened this morning the mucus was peeling of the surface and its looking fit and healthy now

Hi

I thought i'd piggy back onto this thread instead of starting a new one, hope you don't mind Spaceman.

I put my leather in a week ago and it has done exactley what you guys have mentioned above. It's also turning a pale illuminous yellow colour and I just wanted to check if this is what you have experianced or if I should start to worry it's something else?

the mucus sounds scrummy on toast. Mine shed for 3 days, withing a week the polyps were 1" long, and now ae starting to sway like an anemone.

My leather shed a membrane once a week for 3 weeks and after the 3rd time it 'changed' overnight. It had a very pale color and it looked like it was shrinking and 'dried' up. (weird look for under water - I know!!!!) Then one morning it was twice the size and a lovely healthy light peachy color and by the evening all the polyps came out again.
I think patience is the key here :)
