Hi all,
Have had a Hammer Coral in the tank for about 6 months which was doing well, extending everday & growing.Last weekend it didn't extend & has started disintegrating, with about 60% now gone!:(
I know my T5 tubes need replacing which i am doing this coming weekend.
Parameters were as of last night:
Temp 26.1c
Sg 1.025
Ph 8.1
Nitrate 10ppm
Phosphate 0
Calcium 460ppm
DKH 2.6meq/l
I have a Torch coral only 12" away from the Hammer which is doing fine, nothing has been added or changed recently, have never seen any critters bothering it,could the T5s have caused this problem:confused:
Thanks
Rob.

I doubt your lighting is the problem.

Any brown jelly showing ?

have you move the flow from your pumps, etc causing more or less flow to it ??

i would frag it asap, cut off any healthy parts and they should hopefully grow on, if you leave it as it is the whole colony will likely die

if there is no sign of brown jelly i would test your mg levels. could there be anything stinging the coral?

Hi all,thanks for the replies.
No brown jelly showing, tho' its been sloughing (sp) off a lot.
Flow hasn't been changed in anyway.
Muzzy,do i just hacksaw through the dead skeleton?
Thanks
Rob.

Bony,
Don't have Mag test kit at the moment,if that was a problem, wouldn't the Torch be showing signs of distress? Nothing else is near enough to the Hammer to sting it.

http://www.coralplanet.com/Coral_Propagation_Branching_Euphyllia.htm

This may help re fragging it.

some corals die back when the tank is low in one thing or the other and some don't.
