I am currently mystified why frogspawn coral is receding and may perish. It has successfully grown and budded for over 6 months. But recently (last 3 weeks) - receded and each branch is dying off. My levels are still static over the last year in fact my PO4 is the best it has ever been since my fuidiser bedded in. In my desperation I bought a magnesium test kit as I have never measured this before as never found the need. It shows 1155 is this low enough to impact on this or is it dying due to toxin releases from one of my softies the toadstall or devils finger as suggested in my Coral book on euphillia spp.

I've reads Robs recent post but any more help is appreciated as I would rather not lose this.

Cheers

Bill

could be a problem at this level. try bringing it back up but do not bring it up to fast. i use tropic marin mg powder to keep levels at around 1300.

My nitrate sits at 1ppm and has been stable at this for as long as I can remember and my last years diary shows - measured last Sunday.
Will bring mag levels up now I am aware of this issue
Thanks

I had a simialr problem. Could not figure out what it was. I was advised to frag it and see if some of them survive.
As I was fragging, noticed a big manjano. I kalked the manjano and its all Ok now. Check for something similar that could be aggravating.

Will frag as this seems to be the concensus & bring Mag up for tank health.

Was the manjano in amoungst the branches?
