Hi,
Got 3 gorgonites from the planet gorgon :hypo: this week and they all seem to be doing ok, they all have their polyps out but my red one has little bits of sand on it and looks like it is shedding. Oh and my orange one has a hermit in the top branch but your can't really see him in the pic, very athletic.
do gorgonians shed when they grow or is it bad.

Those are real nice, they come from a LFS or mail order?
Cheers Shelton.

Got them at a LFS in Wimborne Dorset.

As already said - super gorgs! They all shed a waxy coat now and again IME. The red gorg looks to be underfed at the moment - its polyps are quite small but should expand to the same extent as the yellow/red one you've pictured.
Superb - the red one is my fave coral!!!

What sort of conditions do you have, seeing as we frequent the same shop....
I had a look at these today but they said I probably wouldn't have strong enough lighting
Well they obviously don't know WTF they're talking about. None of these species shown require any lighting at all as they are non-photosynthetic. What they absolutely do require is freqent target feeding.
. . . and unless your lighting is woefully short AFAIK most photosynthetic gorgs do very well in medium lighting anyway.
What a bunch of muppets

I really wanted to buy one the last time I was in, I fiigured lighting wise I'd have enough, but the current/flow might be difficult, The places with the best/highest current are already taken up with photosynthetic brown gorgs :(
Plus in a nano with the target feeding, it might put just a little bit too much food in...

Hi,
As already said lighting wont be an issue, but I have only had these a week now but I'm feeding them with a mix of ultra clam and ultr min S but you could use just ultra min F. They are on the sand and I have 2 streams 6100 on full and their polyps are out most of the time, night and day.
Mike
might try to get one at the weekend.....:applause: :applause: :applause:
Thanks for the heads up, Mike - went and got a yellow one yesterday. Actually a reasonable price - unusual for that place!

I know, thats why I got 1 of each colour:dance: , although I took the only orange one left :fear:
Hows yours doing?
Well, so far so good - all poyps fully extended. I suppose it's difficult to be objective, but how are you getting on with the Ultra min & clam?

ok, but still not sure if I am mixing it right. I may give UDA a ring tomorrow. Everything is still looking ok all the polyps are out.
Do they have any left???:(

they should have one or two of both the red/burgandy with white polyps and the yellow/red with white polyps, they had 3 or 4 of each last Monday. Why not give them a ring.
Mike
They also had some nice Zoa's last week :)

which tanks where they zpyder?
Invert system (left system), Bottom row, 2nd or 3rd tank from the left.
My definition of nice is "anything other than brown". They had a lot of green zoas in there that looked like they'd be really nice once they settled into a tank. And of course I picked the only brown frag that they had in the tank...

Got a yellow one, all polyps fully extended, I did have my doubts as most of the ones they have left don't have the polyps out anymore, :(

I do realize, that this is an old thread, but just in case if anyone (like me) will be browsing the forum: the first and the second are different color morphs of Diodogorgia nodulifera, and the orange is Swiftia exerta. All are very nice and on the durable end on non-photosynthetic gorgonians.
No, mine do not shed skin, if there is no film (detritus, algae, bacteria) on the branches.
