watts per gallon is really inappropriate way of measuring light as watts is a measure of energy consumption and not light emission..

what lighting do you have in what depth tank and what Lps do you want to keep ??

I want to keep a lobophyllia. the tank is an orca TL-450 I don't know the correct depth but about 12 inches from the sand bed +. It is 36 watts of PC but I am willing to upgrade.

lps dont require powerfull lighting but just 1 36w would be inadequate looking really 2-3 ideal would be 4 so may prove abit difficult within the inclosed lid of an orca

it is 2x 18 watt is that enough or worse? It's an orca TL-450.

as long as you parims are fine you could give a frag a go. how long has the tank been running?

8 weeks so far, but I won't add a candy cane or any LPS until the 3month mark, or is that too early? My params have been stable for a while,as I stock very slowly.

3 months should be fine. watch your calcium and magnessium levels make sure they stay at the desired levels.

Thankyou for your help, I will still upgrade the lighting and also let it mature a bit more. Is a candy cane a bit easier to keep than a lobophyllia?

Candycane has been the easiest LPS i've kept so far, I would try one before a lobo.
