View Full Version : How often should I feed a Cat?
Having had my Elegance a week now I just wondered how often I should feed it?
I gave it some Mysis on Saturday evening which it seemed to enjoy. I then gave it a prawn (broken into small chunks) on Sunday which again it wolfed down!! :D
I was thinking of weekly feeds but would more often cause a problem?
I just want to do whatever I can to make this beautiful creature happy and healthy!
Cheers :thanks:

:worship: :applause: Hi Gav,
feed the cat, a piece of smashed up mussel once a week :D watch him open after a mussel ;) :ohyea: :ohyea: :showoff:  :applause: :applause:
be a bit careful with the size of food you feed it. mine used to eat huge bits of lance and then stopped possibly due to the size of its mouth/overfeeding.
mysis is good, also lance fish in very small bits. I feed it twice a week with lance and it eats any little bits like chopped mussel/mysis,artemia etc that float about the tank
Hi guys, just a matter of interest, how long have you been feeding your cats?
I've been feeding my cat since I got it.
I waited about 2 days since it got settled then I started feeding it meaty foods.
NEVER ;)
or thats what I've been told.
:thanks:

I think the jury is out in this, some people feed often and others don't. I guess it depends on the system how nutrient rich it is and how big and quick you want them to grow.

Is it the same for duncansophillia (spelling ?) do these need target feeding as well ?
thanks
Simon
no not for duncans, these are way more hardy and get most during feeding time.
Have never fed my Elegance (Cat) coral directly - had it now since last July and its doing fine - grown a fair bit since I had it too. Actually I dont target feed any of the lps - the whole tank just gets a general feed every day.

I'm with Roshan on this one. My personal opinion (and it is only that!) is that "in the wild", corals don't get lumps of fish, cockle, mussel, etc. landing on them once a week. Instead, they feed pretty much constantly on much smaller particles of food that they capture from the water column. I've never target fed any of my LPS including a Catalaphyllia, and they all seem to be doing great.

I have never fed my old cat which I have had for over 3 years and is now size of basket ball.
I've never deliberately fed the one i've got now, or the one before that, but it's a fat little bu**er now after snacking on a mimic tang.

Ive had my Cataphyllia for about 3 weeks now and never target fed it. Fish get mysis, brine, cyclops, lobster eggs and it seems to get it's food from whats floating around. As soon as I feed the fish it closes up showing that it is feeding !
