For those who don't know my system. I have a modified perc 120 with a remote DSB/refugium. Po4 and No3 have always been undetectable using the low range Salifert tests. I have always been very skeptical of adding additives to the tank and did think that the Zeovit system was a bit of a fad :D

After speaking with Trythechi and doing a lot of research on these low nutrient systems I thought that I would try out part of the Zeo system.

Ok seeing as I had a very low nutrient system anyway. I wondered if the Zeo additives would make any difference without the use of the zeolites rocks and bacterial culture additions.

I managed to get hold of the following Zeo supplements and started to dose as per the instructions on each bottle:

Macro Elements
K Balance
Amino Acid concentrate
Iron
SPG
Coral Snow (only dosed the last couple of days)- thanks to Trythechi

Now here are the pictures. I think that you will see that the colours are a little deeper and not so washed out in the second pic. I have also noted that growth has increased and most of the coral tips are changing colour. IMO-The tank just looks more vibrant now. All pics were taken with the same camera and same settings.

This is the second pic taken today. 10 days after the additions were started.

Due to seeing excellent results, I will be starting to dose the following additives as per the Zeo instructions:

Zeospur2
CV
B-Balance

It is early days yet and only time will tell if I can really get these corals to show their true colours... it's looking good from where I'm sitting

Nice one Doodie:)

I'm impressed that you'v seen progress so quickly - as sure sign that the tank is nutrient limited already. Great to have someone else to discuss this and that voodoo mojo potion with;)

Any close up shots to share? Pls keep us posted.

Hi Keith,

The darkside can be viewed in technicolor :D

The experiment here is to use the additional elements without Zeolite support to achieve the same colouration. Can it be done?

Lets see what happens...:)

The tubes have made a big difference in the photos Dave - must be even nicer in real life. Whats you evaluation of B - Ballance?

BB is one of the best products I have used IMO from the KZ range. Seriously, within a couple of hours of dosing the colours are deeper and florescence increases.

Intending to dose Spur2 on Thursday evening. I will post an update 24 hours after dosing with an update.

Hows your tank doing now after the CS and Spur2 dose the other night?

B-B is fab inst it:)

I used 4mls of CS and 3mls of Spur2 on a 500ltr net volume. Normally the 3ml dose is fine, but with CS it was too much and many lightened to being unattractive - no bleaching or TN.

I think the CS must potentiates the effect of Spur2, so in future I'll probably dose Spur 2 by itself @3.5mls/500lts.

Doodie, you have an absolutely cracking system:worship: . Can you give any pointers on system age/setup, lighting, and general regime.

cheers

Hi Reefclown,

Thanks for your kind comments :)
Please do a search for 'Doodie's Reef' on this forum. This thread will tell you a bit more about the system.

The things that I have recently changed are:
1. changed over from 2 part to Balling Light for Calcium/Magnesium supplementation.
2. Updated the lighting. Removed 2 x 250 21k MH and added 2 x 54watt Narva Blue + 2 x54watt fiji purple T5 tubes.
3. Changed over from Reef Crystals to Seachem Reef salt. Evaluating this salt at the moment as it is giving a low pH. Might change back to RC to see is this cures this.
4. adding KZ additives for potassium, vitamins, coral food etc to see if I can increase SPS colour without the use of the KZ Zeolite.
5. Skimmer now runs 24/7 due to additional additives.

Thx

D
