Would a DSB work in harmony with these systems or would they compete?

Hi
Chris as the presence of phosphate and nitrate is the limiting factor for bacterial growth there tends to be a conflict. A DSB depending on size will lock in a lot of phosphate and nitrate some of this will be reduced through bacterial action some will be locked into the aragonite, what seems to happen once you start dosing the BAK and MIN you get an immediate reduction of water born nutrients, but then you find all the food you are adding in the form of carbon and amino's is then used to increase the DSB bacteria, but instead of doing something worthwhile for the water quality it simply utilises the mass of locked in nutrients in the sand as an unlimited food source. If that makes sense

Thanks Jez, yes that does make sense.

I'll guess I'll be scooping it out then :D

Just another quicky, should I be turning the skimmer off briefly after dosing?

Hi Chris
The general consensus is no although I suppose if you have a very efficient skimmer:laugh: a couple of hours of letting the min and bak run around the tank has to be a good idea IMHO.

How is it all going is the skimmer working well know as last time we spoke you were watching it every hour and loosing faith:D
