View Full Version : Receding trumpet coral
All my hard and soft corals are doing really well including, Tubi Pora, Acropora, milpora, Goni/Avle - pora (yes lots of pora’s!!!) but since I have replaced the media in my phosphate reactor, my trumpet coral has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. All parameters normal.
No brown jelly or any thing like that but over a 5 day period the tissue has receded up the trunk and there only seems to be a bit of tissue in the centre of the heads.
I used Salfert Iron hydroxide based PO4 media rather than the standard Rowa. This may be coincidental but any ideas?

pair of percs, YT, red sea sailfin tang and a pyjama wrasse not seen any of these anywhere near. I would be suprised if it was a fish it seemed to reced up the trunk uniformally on all the heads rather than one being picked on more than another, its really odd.

Update, the flesh of each of the trumpet heads diminished to a 2mm dot in the centre over a couple of weeks however, over the last week there seems to have been an up turn and each looks like its growing back!
No changesto parameters, very odd?

Just incase this helps mine has done the same thing. I thought it may be down to the 20k bulbs so I swapped them out for 14k, after a couple of days the receding stopped and it's now starting to grow back after a couple of weeks.
