Hi all,

I have been lurking around and really love reading the different posts and you all have been really great in helping me make my mind up on getting a AquaTronica controller. But anyway, if you do not have a static IP is there another way that you can set the Ethernet Module up to view from out of the house on the WAN?? I am trying to rack my brain on this and I cannot think of how I could get around it. My DSL company will not give me a static IP.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The easiest way is to use one of the No IP services like www.no-ip.com but there's a catch. You need to have a PC on your network turned on and running a small applet so that the PC can tell no-ip if there is any changes in your networks current IP.
To set this up:
All you need to do is go to the site and sign up for a free account. You can then choose a name for your domain like www.blakesaqt.no-ip.com Next download the software applet and install it on the PC. Then setup a port redirect on your DSL box like port 3240 to port 80.

To contact your Aquatronica all you have to do is type in www.blakesaqt.no-ip.com:3240 and you will connect to your Aquatronica from anywhere in the world.

If I recall, some of the routers have dynamic IP/DNS tools built in. If you're using a router it might be worth checking whether it does this, and then using a service that it's compatible with - saves having the PC on! I think the Netgear use DynDNS.org though I've never tried it.

What router do you have? There are issues with the Ethernet Module and some routers.

I am using a 2Wire router that is from the phone company that supplying my DSL. Pretty good router.

I don't think it's a question of how good the router it is - it's more a question of whether Aquatronica have tested it with your router. See here: http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=197465

Page 3 onwards has Aquatronica's replies. Did someone say "rushed to market"? Surely not....

Thank you very much. I guess I will find out once I get this stuff this weekend. I then have to setup a wireless bridge to get this to access my wireless router. I cannot believe they did not come out with a wireless ethernet module. That would of been nice.

You have to admit Ian there has not been any other cases of this. I wonder what it is about that router that the AQ has problems with? Did they even give you a hint?
