I am a newbie as some of you may know. Only just started my 24g Nano. I am very interested in maybe trying my hand at breeding. Which are the easiest fish to breed?? Plus how do you do it?

Thanks

Matt

No such thing as easy breeding in marines mate. try doing a little reading on the breeding of clownfish and neon gobies. Thats about as easy as it gets!

I would recommend getting the Joyce Wilkerson book "Clownfishes, A Guide to Their Captive Care, Breeding & Natural History". It's a good book about live food for fry, spawning conditions, and general good care of your broodstock.

edit: click on the book cover - it's a link to Amazon though a sponsor may have it, but last time I was looking for books I came up empty.

As said breeding marines is not like breeding trops. Getting the fish to spawn in the first place usually requires tip-top conditions and even if you manage to get them to spawn, that's just the beginning.

A number of people have bred Banggai Cardinals - easier to rear as are mouthbrooders and very large fry (compared to most other marine fish) are produced.

As per Alan's advice - clowns frequently spawn too, but raising the fry is another matter entirely again.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but has anyone ever bred 2 clowns from different species? My maroon and ocellaris seem to have paired up because they haven't killed each other or even fought extensively for the 11 months I've had them. The Maroon is obviously dominant, and frequently demands the ocellaris to submit, but other than that, they get along fine. I haven't ever read about this happening with anyone else.

Oh and they have been doing their shakey thing at each other. My Maroon seems to have chosen a place to have eggs, as she vibrates and blows away the sand from the corner of the tank.

yeah mixed pairs will spawn just as regular pairs of clowns.
As said baghiis are a good one to try but difficult to pair. Some good advice given here, i would say do a little reading then ask a few more specific questions.
