Aquatronica Ver5.6 Ethernet Fix. It's working

With some time at home to finally check this out in detail I found out why it does not work.
It seems as though Aquatronica changed the protocol that is used to communicate between the controller and the Ethernet module and they forgot to mention the procedure to re-establish communication.

What you need to do is this:

1) Install all the firmware updates for both Aq and Ethernet.

2) Exit PC software

3) Plug out the Ethernet USB cable AND it's Power cable.

4) AQ should come up and say the Ethernet is unplugged, just press "Enter" button.

5) Go into the AQ Menu under Ethernet and Select "Disconnect" device and press Enter

6) Check through the List of connected devices and make sure Ethernet no longer shows up.

7) Plug back in the Ethernet USB cable and then plug in back the Power cable

8) AQ should now show that it has detected the Ethernet Module.

9) Check all your settings, they should all STILL be there.

10) Log on with your browser and it should all be working :D

Aquatronica you owe me one :) Next time please include clearer instructions :)

The upgrade went without a hitch. Followed Robby's instructions above and the Ethernet Module is working as before.

Ian, when you say working as before, do you mean that it's not working via your router?

At the moment, that's exactly what I mean!

I'll spend a bit of time later going through everything I went through before - but fundamentally, if I set up an external port on the router to redirect to port 80 on the EM, it still doesn't work!

Can it send emails? Ian how are you trying to connect to it via internet, are you using a PC on the network and typing in the IP that your ISP has assigned you?

I have a fixed external IP address. I also have a laptop with a dial-up modem in it - this means I can test my own web-server(s) from home by dialling out and coming back in on the broadband connection.

I haven't had a chance to try out the email yet - I'm too ****ed off that it still doesn't work!

Don't know what to say, I think there are only two things you can do to guarantee that it will work. Change the Router or send the router to Aquatronica and let them figure out what the compatibility problem is. I know both choices suck and you might be thinking of option number three. But don't drop kick it in the Bin just yet.

ahhhhh now it will not reconnect. It just keeps blinking the ? then when I reconnect the ? goes away. Then I unplug it and it says unconfigured device unplugged. I may have to reset my whole program unless someone knows of another way.

What wont reconnect? The Ethernet?
Check out the version software you have running on both the Ethernet and AQT. Are they correct?

YEAH 3.11 for AQ and 2.0 for Ethernet. I followed your directions to the T. I am thinking about resetting the device.

Make sure you Save a backup first then do a restore after you do the reset. Just in case write down your settings in case you have to do a full manual reprogram

Just for peace of mind have you closed the application and re-started as my ethernet upgrade only took place on the second re-start

well resetting and restoring my settings worked. Have no idea why that happened. Been a weird all around day.

edit: Steve, I tried to close out of the app and then open it many times and nothing. Reset worked though. Thank God.

Now that the save and restore function is workin again:cool:

The reset function will help in 99% of software issues, especaially when reconnecting kit that has its own settings(like the ethernet module) reiduall programms can be carried across and the onlt way to get rid is the reset function. (its like removing old software on a PC)
