Hey mate,
glad to see you've started a thread, looks like a nice setup mate. I've got to say a little overstocked, but you are setting up a new tank so we'll leave that for now! :)
The corner tank i've been helping you with looks like it could make a nice setup aswell!
As i say any questions ask away..........
Get building that other tank! :)
:thanks:

thanks, in what way are the selection of fish wrong :o ? i know the yellow stripey butterly fish is large, but she seems happy in there, and i guess i was advised yes that shed be ok in this 130 litre tank ! although shes going into my juwel 350 as soon as its ready..the regal tang dorey i know can get huge over time, but beleive me once shes more than 1 1/2 inches i would rehome her , or in my case i will have the trigon 350 to pop her in as soon as i can :)

are the others ok, or not suitable together, i know the yellow/purple is grumpy as hell, and has had a few goes at rocky the rock hopper ( yellow little one )

:thanks:

Hey,
the butterfly is called a copperband butterfly (i think im no expert), there generally regarded as being for well established tanks, because there very very fussy eaters, and the regal will get very big, quickly. There prone to getting ill when in small tanks, because it stress' them.
You've got a 350 ltr tank on the way though, which should be sound i think! i'd definatly move the regal over, and although the copperband should be in mature tanks, the red sea max is to small really!
But above all, If and when you move them, do it slowly to allow the tank to get used to the bioload....

A Warm welcome from one and all,

I guess the yellow stripped fish you mention is the copperband butterfly that is in a lot of your pictures, minumum tank size for these fish is 75 gallons, these are one of the hardest things to keep in a large well established tank and feeding them is another question, would not say that was a good choice for your tank, as others have said have a read of some books a good book to look at is reef aquarium fishes by Scoot W. Michael, has some good advice on fish and the tank they should be kept in.

Good luck with your new tank.

copperband butterfly, yes thats it, thanks marc, she seems to be feeding very well on the frozen brine shrimp i add every day, ive upped my feed to 1 cube a day now, 1/2 at about 2pm then half at about 10pm.. but yes she will be moved, and yes the regal tang got a white spot attack on the day she enterede the tank causing me headaches ! but i must say shes eating well now, and also the white spot has all but gone, fingers crossed ! but she will also move, i saw one recently that must have been 5-6 inches long ! amazing, considering my little ones less than a inch at the mo.. so sweet, and barmy !

personally i wouldnt put a regal in your trigon let alone a red sea max and as for the copperband i think enough has been said PLEASE try to read up on fish before buying them i know we are all guilty of buying fish on impulse sometimes but surely it was obvious the copperband was far to big for your tank

there seems to be alot of fish in your tank for only 9 weeks old the key to this hobby is patience

Look dont just have a dig at the stocking level. We know so we should help. Moss keep an eye on your Nitrates, they will go up quick.

Completly agree with this. :) Everyone on the forum is guilty of making mistakes, were here to try and help rectify them, not alienate them.
The fact that the butterfly is eating frozen is a good sign, but brine shrimp isn't amazingly nutritional to be honest, i used to feed it, but switched to marine mix cubes and mysis cubes, you could carry on using the brine mate, but i'd enrich it myself - have a browse through the sponsors, and in the food section you'll find lots of things like this.

Regal tangs are renowned for getting white spot, when you first added it to the tank it would have been the stress of the move but i do admit, the size of the tank wouldn't help.

As coupe girl said, you might struggle with nitrates a bit, so keep your eyes peeled for them - there not fatal (at low doses) but not something to be encouraged having - but most will have nitrates - mines about 30ppm all the time :(

just food for thought

Nice photo's Moss - thanks for letting us see them. Please take the comments in a positive way - we ALL make mistakes and it's soo easy to get carried away in a fish shop :) - especially ones where they are more interested in the sale than giving good advice about livestock.

I think pointing out the stocking levels are too high and there are fish that are not particularly suited to that sized tank is trying to help and not "having a dig" at all. Overstocking and inappropriate stocking by people who are new/badly advised is perhaps the biggest cause of tank problems IME.

I've lost count of the number of times we've seen posts from tanks where the stocking is "overzealous" and it's resulted in the death of a number of animals. Oddly, "having a dig" is helping if it means that more thought is put into the stocking levels and mixes!

i must agree with zimreef, it was not us having a go just trying to point out in a friendly mannor the error in the fish that have been chosen.

It would be easy to sit back watch the nitrates rise through the roof, all the fish die and the person gets so cheesed off with all the money they spent that is now dead only to pack it all in.

By being constructive, steps can be taken to ensure this does not happen, one thing you could do is ask the fish shop where you brought the fish from to house the fish that are not suitable till your new tank is up and running then transfer the fish into there more suitable home.
