wow gorgeous fish, they are number 1 on my list for the day I get a bigger tank.

Is it a trick of the camera or is that cleaner shrimp huge??!

No, it's no trick - he is a leviathan of the deep (and he just molted again overnight so he's even bigger today!!) To be honest, he's a bit of a nuisance as he's too big to clean the fish, which are all relatively small, and he's a thief when I spot feed my corals/nem. But hey, c'est la vie!!!!!

Thanks for the comp on the fish - the video doesn't do him justice and he has settled in really well, definitely one to recommend

I don't think they're particularly rare - I only paid £24 for it. Bargain I thought

wonder if it's male or female as you could end up with a compleatly different looking fish, i lost mine and would love another but my sixline wouldn't allow it

I do love this family of wrasse, and that is a nice example and like the video.

I now have a Leopard, Peacock and a Choati (just hope I have success with it), just want a male now and that is my little harem complete.Still can't see where mine bed down at night, always just seem to miss it.

(Just realised how old this thread is, do you still have it?)

"Leopard Wrasse" is the generic name given to the family Macropharyngodon. There are quite a few species. Your is probably "THE Leopard" Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris) - also known as the Guinea Fowl Wrasse or Blackspotted Wrasse.

For those looking to purchase one - all can be picky eaters and will often only feed on live food, so make sure you have a good live rock setup with pods etc and a decent sand bed in the tank for it to sleep in. Also check for mouth damage when purchasing, almost always a sign they won't make it.

nice video but it is definitely not an ornate leopard wrasse

You can see the one I had at the top of this photo

The one in AD's vid is female/juvenile M. bipartitus (Peacock Leopard Wrasse/Splendid Leopard Wrasse/Vermiculate Wrasse/Divided Wrasse/African Leopard Wrasse).

Langy, it's an Ornate Leopard Wrasse/Peacock wrasse, and it is indeed a female (a juvenile one at that), Pavlo yours is a male it would seem. I no longer have it, but it is doing very nicely in my friends tank and is now well over 3" in length

I still reckon yours is Macropharyngodon bipartitus whereas mine is Macropharyngodon ornatus.

Have a look here and see what I mean http://www.wetwebmedia.com/macropharyngodon.htm

See what you mean, I think the problem lies (as usual) with common names as opposed to scientific nomenclature - many sites I visited before buying the wrasse (some time ago now) had it named as Ornate/Peacock etc etc. I totally agree it's M. Bipartitus, and yours certainly looks like M. ornatus, so I think it's just another case of organised confusion by those espousing common names in the hobby/industry. I'd be quite happy to never deal in common names, instead using the scientific name. There'd be some learning to do though :D Just as an example - my LFS brought in a Lilac Pyjama Wrasse from TMC - ooooh, I htought, but it was a Mystery Wrasse. If TMC can't get it right, what hope is there for the rest of us.... (bought it anyway, though :D)

Deffo a female Peacock (Leopard). I had a male and a female and the males look very different, as they have a mainly pink body.

Great fish! The males are buggers for kicking up the sand bed looking for food though. My female didn't seem to do it though for some reason.

Lovely wrasse mate :)

I had one for a while in my sump after my sixline chased it into the weir for the 3rd time in as many days  lasted a month eating well then dissapered :(

When I move my fish over to my new tank, a peacock wrase is the first thing going in  and the sixline is going, or maybe to the sump?

They are beautiful fish. Glad to see yours is out & about. Mine has so far hidden more than I've seen it for, however it has been out all day today. Incidently as already said the so called common names for these fish are extremely confusing. Mine was sold to me as a Jewel wrasse but I knew it was Macropharyngodon bipartitus as soon as I saw it in the shop.

Hi Guys..thought i would add my 2 p worth.
lol.
From what i have read it does read as Ornate or divided . lol

Its what i refer to it as ..so it MUST be right lol.

she is a GREAT fish. Always out dead on time and always asleep dead on time.

Only one problem in an RSM the sand she blows up is MAD.
She starts with whacking the sand a few times before she sleeps.
This drives me nuts as i get sand over EVERYTHING. So am a little concerned for when the LPS start coming in.

Then she dives in head first and all you see is wriggling under the sand and she is totally gone.

Then she is up again.

What i find amazing is how do they know so perfectly what time it is. When i say perfect i could swear she gets up and sleeps EXACTLY at the same time every day.

When i first got her she disappeared for days. I was worried so disturbed her a few times.

But now she is ALWAYS looking for food and going well all over!.

She is rarely scared of me even when i put my hand in the water.

I must admit after i got her and she was settled, the Yellow tang and the shot silk goby became more confident.

Heres the question.. when i get my LPS should i rehome her, because she gets sand over EVERYTHING!

We have had a peacock for 5 months and is the star of the reef!
goes to bed and gets up same time every day (better than the kids!!), eats frozen, dry and flake and keeps the flat worms at bay!

due to their nocturnal habits and not going to bed in the same place it is keeping the tank bed turned over, but yes we do have a little issue with gravel on the lower LPS, but they do not show any ill effect.

for the new tank was planning to have a manderin once matured, however may look for a pair of peacocks instead..:worship:

I have read on a few sites that the sand can hurt/damage LPS is that true?
