From their website:

Aquatronica would like to inform its customers that the new software package containing the Ethernet module (ACQ225) update how now been posted.
IMPORTANT: ONLY ETHERNET MODULES PROGRAMMED WITH FIRMWARE VERSION 1.0 must be disconnected from the Ethernet network before running the update procedure.

Has anyone managed to download the update? As soon as it tries to ftp to www.aquatronica.com it fails. I would be interested to see if it is working for anyone else?
Craig: are you doing an "internet update" or a "update system" the latter won't work till you have successfully downloaded a newer version of the former!
Steve
tried both, but yeah get the same message as you on one of the methods.
Going to try in a bit, will let you know if it downloads.

You can now download the update which contains the following: :D
New Features:
PC SOFTWARE:
- Software v. 5.6.2
- Manages the periodic status e-mail option
- Improves SMTP server set-up
- Corrects a few "minor bugs"
CONTROLLER:
- Firmware v. 3.11
- Corrects a few "minor bugs"
ETHERNET MODULE:
- Firmware v. 2.0
- Corrects a few "bugs" which should improve compatibility with numerous Router models, and in the SMTP server set-up
- Implements the new periodic status e-mail function
I have done the update and can now connect locally to the ethernet module and send emails from it successfully. I am still having problems reaching it over the internet, but it is at least making a connection as it has got the Aquatronica icon in the tool bar, but keeps coming up with a read error. This could be due to the VPN I am testing it over, so I will try and get someone to connect externally for me.
So far so close, I'll keep you posted.
Steve
Unplug the Ethernets USB and power cable then remove the Ethernet device from within the controllers Menu.
Replug in the USB cable then the power cable and the AQ will redetect the Ethernet module with all your settings intact. It should work as normal after that.

You have to do that to even connect locally. This is a problem just when connecting from outside of my network. As I said above.
I'll try it without the VPN connection confusing the matter.
Must do the update tomorrow.
It is working, a member of RC did the full update and he said it wen't smoothly :)
The Ethernet module must be disconnected from your router before you do the update.

Well, I don't know what happened to make a difference. As nothing has changed, no reboots or anything. But I got friend to try and connect to the AQ over the web and they could connect and then the status emails that I wasn't receiving started coming through. It is probably my biggest bug bear with AQ in that you never know quite how it works. Anyway... enough moaning it is working see http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1683180#post1683180
Steve I am not sure if you where trying to use a PC at home that is connected to the same internet connection as the Aquatronica, but if you where trying that it won't work. Windows does not allow you to use your external IP to contact a machine on the same network, you have to use the Internal IP for that.
What I do is connect my laptop via modem to my ISP and use the laptop to check the external connection.
The Ethernet module must be disconnected from your router before you do the update.
This is where I got confused. How can I send the update to the EM from my PC without the EM being connected to the network?
Just trying to set it up at the moment and I'm already confused!
Thank goodness for UR

The Ethernet Module is connected to the router AND to the Aquatronica - Robby's post says you must disconnect the Ethernet Module from the router.
The firmware update is done via the PC to Aquatronica interface (Serial or USB) not over the network.
Hope that makes sense.
So the AQ has to be connected to the PC? I guess this will require the purchase of the AQ PC software then? (I was informed otherwise :( )
I 'wrongly' assumed that the ethernet module was to allow me to connect my PC to my AQ without the need of a USB or Serial cable.
Now I'm just annoyed.

Yeah, I'm afraid you've been misinformed, mate. I would have a moan at whoever told you that!
You need the PC Interface to be able to update the firmware on the controller.
Well I've done the moaning and got the PC interface software now so it's all updated.
Having re-run the CAT5 cable I'd put in from the tank to the PC upstairs only to realise the initial lead didn't work as I've connected the cable colours back to front I now have it working on my LAN.
This brings me to my next moan which is the lack of access the ethernet box gives me to the AQ. It would appear I can only see what the current state of the tank is (pH and temp so far) and what the plugs are doing. I know I can manually turn a plug on and off but I would have at least expected to be able to change the ethernet options and I was expecting to be able to have as much control via the ethernet as I do if I plug my PC direct to the AQ.
So far I'm a tad disappointed :(

Not wishing to make you feel worse, mate - but a bit of research might have minimised your disappointment. I bought the Ethernet Module at Christmas having read a few reviews so I knew pretty much what the limitations of it were.
Having said that, Aquatronica are not a company to rest on their laurels, so don't be surprised if the next software update includes more functionality for the Ethernet Module. (I'm not promising anything - just wishful thinking!)
Extra 'useability' is planned for future updates, tronica were not sure what everybody wanted, so it came out in basic format.
One of the great things about tronica, they do listen and upgrades are easy for them to do.
Point taken chaps, my mistake to 'assume'
It's like having a TV remote with only an on/off button at the moment.
Hi Babelfish,
Any ideas on what you want, log onto the Aquatronica forum and post the suggestions there, they do listen.
You can also e-mail service direct, which is always the best way for ANY question(you will be speaking/writing to one of the designers!).
Thanks Ian.
First thing I need to figure out is why I can't access it via my LAN. I type in the IP address and nothing :(
I hate network stuff, there never seems to be any logic to whether it works or not IMHO.
