i use aragamax sugar sized

i voted on this as this is my main sand, however, i have mixed in a small amount of courser stuff with coral rubble shells etc

love it, very white, i think the other stuff is crushed florida coral?

60lbs of Arag alive Bahama oolite and 20lbs of Aragmax sugar sized, too small in retrospect as i have 40x turnover rate and it was a right sod to get the flow so i didnt have a sand storm, could of done with something bigger IMO.

I think the look of the sugar size sand is best by far, but is'nt the easyest to live with due to the flow that sps demand!

Caribsea sugar fine for me, my sump has 3.5" in it at all times and I also have nassarius vibex sand sifting canriverous snails in there. They eat any uneaten food that enters my sump and they also turn the sand over very very slowly so as not to disturb it too much and so as not to put too much oygenated water through the sand. Some people make the mistake of putting sand sifting starfish in their sumps, I think they are too vigerous in a sump myself and they are best kept in the main tank if you wish to keep them JMO.

why is it bad to shift the sand MT?

i dont think its the amount of sand they sift MTs refering to, its the amount of benificial life they remove from the sand bed as this is what they eat

i was thinking to hava a DSB on its own and could take it off line if i needed to, so i was thinking of putting about only 2inches of sand at the most in the display tank. Is it bad if i siphon it regularly? (or maybe at least a bit from the top)
