i have 2 more problems with my tronica & i am starting to wish i had not bought it!

firstly i can't connect my pc, i have the official usb adapter & software. worked 1st time when i bought it & now it just comes up with could not connect, check connection, i have tried every usb socket on the plugbar & all 6 on my laptop & it still dont work! i have reinstalled the software & the usb adapter but to no avail!

secondly i have just bought a level sensor & it seems to work back to front!
when the water level is low it does not come on so i top it up with a jug:laugh: the controller the tells me the water level is high & turns the bloody pump on:applause: after 3 or 4 minutes the controller beeps at me & tells me that there is a programme error!

might just turn the top up sensor upside down i think that i might work then!

any ideas????

thanks guys if you do!

Most likely the reason the adapter is not working is because Windows has installed its own driver for the Serial to USB converter. There are a few threads on the subject, but basically you have to uninstall the default windows driver manually using the control panel and system/ Device hardware.
Then install the Driver that came on the Serial converters disk. In 99% of the cases it is not an aquatronica problem but a win driver problem.

In regards to the level sensor you need to program the Aquatronica to know which direction you want the sensor to activate the pump. From your description it sounds like you have the plug programmed backwards. Take a look at the manual and you will see how to change that.

As Robbie said more than likely its the windows driver and it does sound as if you have got the program arse about tit on the level sensor.

craigg started a thread a while ago when having problems with kalk addition via the level sensor in combination with the timer. It ended up as a very detailed demonstration of how to use the timer and sensor to the full. Well worth a read.

Your not the first person with this problem, it's not an Aquatronica fault it's a major Windows fault. I have had this happen with all sorts of USB devices. Thats why on almost all USB equipment they put those big Red Stickers saying to Install the Driver before plugging in the device. Once windows decides to install it's own driver it's hell to remove it and get the correct one installed.

Here's a page for another Serial to USB converter, it gives you a good idea of what you need to do. Blame Microsoft for this one not Aquatronica.

it had worked when i 1st installed it but then decided not to work!, no big stickers though! drivers were installed by the disk so who knows!, still struggling though!

Don't exclude the possibility that when you turned off the machine or unplugged the converter after the first connection, windows installed it's own driver the next time around. It happens

If you are talking about the cable in the above post its irelevant until you unistall the windows driver.

I had the same problem the first time I installed my Serial to USB. It kept putting back the windows driver over and over. I think in the end I did everything from within Safe Mode and it worked.

Borrow someones laptop or another PC and try that. Just to confirm that it is the driver and not something else. Make sure you install the driver before connecting the converter.
BTW don't feel bad, this problem has happened to many a USB device owner. Thats why most USB stuff comes with that huge red writing saying "Install drivers before plugging device in." If you don't it's a major mess to fix.
