View Full Version : what about marinelux 10k's
Hi all I've seen quite a lot of reviews of the 14k lamps but none for the 10k's. I want something to knock out a similar bright white light to the xm 10k's and really kick off the growth of my sps. I use 80w of t5 lighting would this still be enough to colour things up a bit?. Presume there is some par comparison done?
Ah well the order's in, guess I'll just have to find out for myself.
Ok I got them, have to say I am not finding them particularly bright atm after 4 days, very high in the red / yellow spectrum to the eye. I can actually glance at the lamp and look at the glass in the middle which there was no way I could do on the xm lamps. I would say they are less bright than the 12 month old arcadia 14k's I replaced at the moment. Does anyone have experience of these lamps?, will they burn in and brighten up or is this it?

Not quite sure what your getting at Ollski.
human eye visual intensity estimation and PAR are two completely different things..
ultimately its your corals that will tell you whats better or worse., But fwiw, yes they can take a while to settle down and burn in. and you should expect differences between one manufactures 10K and another.
good luck with them, give them a while and see how you get on.

Si.

Hi Ollski,
I have to agree with Simon here, what are you trying to compare?
I have been a long time fan of XM lamps, until I used the 15K lamps that were disastrous! I am in the fortunate position now of having 3 identical tanks all running different lamps, currently I am burning in the marine lux 10k and 14k lamps and as soon as they are available I will add the 20k.
I will then be able to do a visual comparison of the 3 lamps, I would certainly not rely on any photos to give you a comparison. I will be growing identical frags in each tank, that will be the proof of the best growing lamp. That data will not be available for quite a while, but initial gut feeling is they are as good as if not better than other lamp and a price that makes them unbeatable!

Wel I'm just looking at the tank. When I changed to xm 10ks I needed to lift the lamps much higher after an initial patch of bleaching on an acro noblis and the brightness was amazing they lit the room. I was kind of expecting a similar reaction with these, however visually they look very similar to my old arcadia 14ks but perhaps not quite so bright and the inner envelope is covered in a brown / red residue which is what I'm wondering about. Should this burn away and let the lights show their true colours?. I have the lamps down at normal height from the water now after 1 week and the one is looking a lot brighter than the yellow out put on the other, but for 5 mins when they warm up the living room looks like a knocking shop with the red light they put out.
Amazing service and speed of delivery, just don't really have a lot of experience with different lamps and was probably expecting more of an immediate effect like when I put in the xm's.
Any chance of a pic of the 10k's?
I've only got a liitle phone cam for pics at the moment but these are them with and without 78w of t5 actinic.
