I've put another poll in for the water purification.
This time I've put in an RO+DI option.

Whats the difference between using just Tap water and Don't use water purification?

Ahh perhaps it means well water;)

you can never have enough RO mate

that is the beauty of working where i do... i have top grade water on tap.... more than i could ever use, it is srviced for us by purite every couple of months too so the quality is always spot on

You do have to be carefull with large volume stored water though. It has a nasty habit of developing large scale bacterial blooms unless kept in very clean conditions.

I know of at least one reefer who nearly lost several thousand pounds worth of stock through using contaminated stored RO from a potable container.

simon.... that is a top of the range commercial laboratory set up it is supplying the ro water to the whole of the institute i work in trust me if it is good enough for the kind of work i do then it is more than good enough for fish and corals... the day i took that photo the conductivity meter was readin 17.2 mega ohms... that is way to hyoptonic for bacteria to grow in...

I use a six stage RO-Man unit with DI, very happy....... :)

Plus where I work it's either stored under UV light or cycled through UV, i don't know which, thats gotta help. I feel more confident getting my water from work than from an LFS.

I am USing a DI unit itself.... IMO no doubt that RO gives really pure water. . . but its just too slow for my liking.... All i did was to ensure that the effluent reads 000 on the T.D.S meter or i will change the entire batch of resin.

Blimey Martin, thats some set up..... :worship:

Strange the amount of useful things we can find at work to sustain our habit......I just picked up a couple of peri pumps and a programmable relay for balling salts :applause: nice.

RO + DI all the way.

I looked at one the pumps used in my work but i think 82500 psi is a bit much

Well you say that but if you tank was the size of the North sea.....:whistling:

I dont think even a tidal wave would produce that much pressure and the other small problem, we use 60000 psi to cut through glass !

so exactly what is involved with this, i can see the ion exchange resin canisters {probably filled with di i guess} i can see a membrane in the bucket but where does that get fitted ?

Not seen this, but at a guess. Water filtration plant is not shown in the pic. All we can see is part of the purified water loop and storage tank. Water is circulated through the loop via the pump next to di pods. On return to tank it is passed through the stainless uv on the rhs and then through the di resin back to the tank. Standard purified water loop setup. It looks like level probes in teh tank that demand the generation plant to flush itself and then start generating water to the tank. Nice small setup. 17.2 mega Ohms is quite good actually. I wonder what it is in the actual loop?
Could be wrong though;)

Martin has been having a break from the board recently, although I'm sure TwistedPro could let you know.

BTW I have now added a DI pod to my RO unit.

4 stage 100 gallon professional with di unit sat in box next to pooter, no leaks and quiet as a mouse, so my question is do i have to plumb it in or is it automatic:whistling:

Simple 3 stage RO unit... getting TDS less than 006 ppm and happy with that.

Got so much RO, now cleaning the car with it!!! We have VERY hard water in Northampton!!!

50gpd 3 Stage w/o dioniser, Seems to be reasonable, does the job!
