I like it! I like the standalone rock formations with the outcrops and branching pieces - once they're coral'd up they'll look fantastic. A bigger bonus for me though is the amount of swimming room available for fish!
whats going in the other corner?
Looks good mate, I can almost imagine what that will look like with some big arcos and plating corals (montis ect)
in the other corner is 2 pillers connected with plate rock to make a cave ( 1st pic )
their will be 5 colomns in total
mark
Mark, what are you using to hold the rocks together?
Looking good m8, out of curio what are you using to join the rockwork? I presume its gonna have to cure over a few weeks much like making your own LR?
Cheers, Shelton.
Short & too the point Kieth!
Cheers, Shelton.
i love the bommie look, i have just re-done my tank with 2 bommies and its freed up loads of tank space. this 1 is gonna look awesome!!!
its a new reef cement , details will follow , cured in 24hrs

Is that reefbones, or is it home made branch rock..?
either way, it'll look stunning as everything starts growing off it, loads of places to attatch frags etc..and (often missed out in reeftank desighn) ledges and shaded zones for fish to laze out under between feeding times as they do in the wild..
The only thing i would say to consider (youve probably allready thought of this so appologies)...is to pay carefull attention to the relationship between your light sources and the rock faces you want to place corals on.. ie try and avoid having a column, smack bang under a light if you can, becouse the top of the column will block out the bottom half, as will any corals you place higher up. whereas a column thats slightly to the side/or back from of a lamp will have at least one veiwable face thats fully illuminated from an angle... this means you can coral up the whole face without them being shaded out by those above..
keep it up m8...
im looking forward to this one...
regards
Si.
yeah , have off-set all of the colomns ( some will be quite dim from the front , but light at the sides etc.
i have a mixture of dried live rock , reefbones , wet live rock and the tonga from tmc.

umm, are you gonna tell them all about the hammer?
very nice indeed
i tried to create something similar but i just didnt have the room in my tiny rio 180
looks stunning, can not wait to see it all stocked
one day
Or we could do it for you ;) :D MWA HA HA HAAAA!!!!
Mark, it looks awful, do me a favour, and let me do it for you, I'll come along with my hammer :P :P :P ;)
can not wait to see it all stocked
And knowing Mark, that'll be done by next week
Who would of thought that standard issue equipment for large tank aquascaping would be a bloody great big hammer eh?
Come on! someones gotta spill the beans about the hammer now :blink:
Cheers, Shelton.
Who would of thought that standard issue equipment for large tank aquascaping would be a bloody great big hammer eh?
I was gonna say, I've never really relied on a hammer for doing stuff in a reef tank!!!
ok ok
so had a small problem
really isnt as mad as everyone seems to think
some have seen this and some are still laughing their asses off. at the time this just was not funny.
ok.
so , i started to put up my new lights and run all the wires in.
just one more to go and the wires were in.
last cable clip and yes you guessed it.
I DROPPED THE HAMMER ( they told me he bounced ) , stood their looking at the ceilng for ages , just didnt want to look down.
ok here goes
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0722.jpg
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0723.jpg
well thats that the wife said. it will have to be stripped and repaired.
ok. will call a few people who i know have built/repaired tanks
the answers were all pretty much the same. YOUR TANK ( phone hits the floor and their is the sound of laughter )
cant be that difficult to do ( I THOUGHT ).
got into work the next day , called the local glass dealers.
i am after a 10mm 3ft*3ft piece of glass. nothing. tried another. nothing.
eventially i call this bloke who tells me they have just been to a shop breakin in trafford park. he has some 10mm glass and an cut it to 3*3.
sound , be their in 10 mins.
got the glass , begged fishman for some silicon , placed in and used 4 tubes of silicon
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0724.jpg
right thats done. will leave it 24hrs.
next evening , got home from work , got into tank ( thought to myself , if i jump up and down on the repair ) and all is well , then i have cracked it.
jump , jump , CRACK.
one of the crackes spread to the join ( past the origenal repair ).
NOW WHAT DO I DO.
this is where it gets a little ( small ) dodgy.
i had a small 10mm piece of glass. , will just silicon that to the origenal repair.
crap , no silicon
will have to wait. hang on , i know
just had a deltec delivery , open the box YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
the milliput had arrived
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO I HERE YOU ALL SAY
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0730.jpg
well thats that done , lets fill it.
24hrs later
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0731.jpg
60 hrs later
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb13/haz330/DSCF0733.jpg
a week later and all was well. 12000ltrs of water and not one leak.
a week later and all was well. 12000ltrs of water and not one leak.
No, there are 12!
jump up and down on the repair ) and all is well , then i have cracked it.
jump , jump , CRACK.
LOL, I can just imagine the look on your face mate!!!!:laugh::laugh:

lol, :hammer: and I always got the impression that alongside your association with acropora house, you were a profressional, but now i am questioning that. Oh yer, your a very brave man doing a bodge on that scale or you have a very understanding misses.

OMG
If that had been my tank i think i would have started crying like a girl
Hope that holds for you .... your certainly a braver man than me
Still...
Better than leaving your lights on all night (every night) to deter fish burglars eh? ;)
I'll get me coat :whistling:
Cheers Mark:worship:, probably see you at the weekend if you're still talking to me?
Wurgle
think i would be buying a dingy just in case, no sod that get a kayak -- they handle the white water better
Your a brave man Mark, to chance a repair like that with all that weight! I don't think I could sleep at night....
So now we find out where the flood really came from!

So now we find out where the flood really came from!
lol, and he thought he had a serious evaporation problem, so just kept filling it up, whilst man in village down the road keeps bailing out his cellar.
Firstly, I am sorry to see this, what a kick in the balls :(
Glad to see you have pressed ahead, although if you'll pardon my brash comment - I think you're a mad man.
I'll also be amazed if those cracks don't run further still.
The only way to do a proper* botch repair would be to drill the crack with a 40-50 mill hole just at the end of the crack, to stop it running out further. Then silicone a new pane over the cracks and said hole. You should also drill out the impact point as this is where cracks start from; so new cracks may form.
My ar5e would be twitching if I did not drill those cracks, you must have a big set of cahooners - and a boat; if that tank pops
I don't mean to sound negative - if that is your final repair then good luck to you and I honestly I'm wrong and I hope it lasts :) .
Proper*And yes, even the botch repair is not ideal - tank needs a new base imo.

can't see any of the pics but have read the story, hammers, jumpin, milliput?!?!?!?!
get in, my kind of fella!
Looking good mate, but i would never trust those cracks not to run!
Oh, and have i missed something? how come your building this tank up again??
Because he's a glutton for punishment (oh and because it was probably the best in the UK at its prime!)
I remember it mate, i was gutted when he decided to pull it apart!
OMG  - I could not sleep at night (or during the day) if that was my tank. I could not invest so heavily in time/effort and money with that potential disaster just waiting to happen on such a huge tank. Hope your luck holds out :(
BTW the new rockwork looks stunning!! :applause:
John
thanks for the comments
dont worry , should be runnin by end august

Getting better and better :).
Dont worry about that cyano, imo it's to be expected with most new tanks, it will go in time (as you know) :).
That aquascaping looks awesome!
yeah love ther rockwork and as to be expected some great fish in there too!

You could even manage a Bond-esque underwater bad-guy hideout. There's certainly the square footage in there :)
Holy Bloody Cow, Mark! Where do you have this tank??????
I am amazed! This is ONE of the BIGGEST private tanks I have EVER seen!
BTW: What amphiphron clown is that? It's the first time ever that I have seen one like that. I have seen "black" occelaris clowns - but this one is NOTHING like a black occelaris......
Thanks for sharing this with us! Cheers, mate!

I'd still love a go at shooting that tank with my wide-angle - maybe even do a VR movie (although it would be pretty difficult). Let me know if interested Mark...
