Hi
Having seen Martins post and the basic testing (his words) he has completed on the product, it would seem both batches were viable and produced bacterial activity. I know Martin is looking to find time to do some more advanced testing in the future to identify strains etc.

For know though I hope this will put to bed peoples concerns over the viability of the product. The results with using probiotic will vary from system to system. The concept of culturing a good old bucket of bac is out on the fringes of reef keeping at the moment IMHO and not really what the product was designed for.

I am as always concerned for the corals and fish and I can see that a large dose of bacterias may help reduce nitrates very quick, it is also in my mind a method that has some risk attached especially if the piece of live rock used has an undesirable strain such as certain vibrio's etc present in small numbers you could easily be culturing something more harmful to the fish and corals who are adapted to coping with bacterias at certain levels give them a rich soup of some aggressive vibrio could be a bit of a problem.

YMMV

I have also received some comments that people felt that ITC were abit tardy in our responses to this topic as its a new method of keeping marines and a lot of people are looking for quicker answers than they got.

So my apologise and we will make sure that in the future we endeavour to get you quicker responses.

If you have any more questions on the Ultra bio then please feel free to post or pm me and I am always happy to see if I can help resolve your problem
