i picked one of these up last week. It has never fully extended its polyps and is now looking rather limp and folded over. Un extended it is around 6 - 8 cm tall. I was told that if i hang it upside down that it would give it a chance to recover:confused:. I take it they mean by removing the crease with the weight that it will allow it to possibly straighten:confused:

I have also noticed some areas in the main stalk appear to have damage almost like a balloon streatchin this was before i hung it. I have tried it in and out of direct flow with no desernable difference. The sun coral and asparagus tip and small orange bush frag that i picked up at same time are all doing fine.

Any ideas appreciated as i do not want to loose this stunning coral. Also should i keep it hanging upside down????????????????

It looks nonphotosynthetic which would explain why you were told to put it upside down. To be honest I dont think it would matter where you put it or which way up it was, it's gonna die, they always do. Fauna marine have bought out a new food for nonphotosyntetic corals and this is probably your best chance. To be sucessful however you will need to feed heavily and your water quality may suffer if you do not keep up with regular water changes and maintenance.

Best of luck

Agree with Paul, looks like you have been mislead and its nonphotosynthetic.

I have been misting it with coral food and brine and bits of meaty stuff as i do the sun coral each day, the suncoral responds well to the feeding yet the red pussey coral does not:( .

humph!!!!!:annoyed:. So annoying when you are given the wrong advice. Ive tried to google for pussy coral but cant find anything. I was told it was the same as a bush coral which i have a large brown one of, and it is doing fine and growing great guns. (7 inches in 5 months).

Pavlo, do you reckon it gonna die no matter what, or is their a chance of saving it? and is the saving bit just a case of mintense feeding?

pussy coral is cladiella for google purposes

you may be able to save it. I have always steered clear of them.

I have seen hundreds of peoples tanks, some of them among the best in the world and I have never seen a red, purple or orange cladiella or dendronepthya type coral thriving in any of them. If they were within our abilities, we would all have them because they are stunning.

i'm a bit confused guys as if you google cladiella - all sites say its one of the best, hardiest and easy to keep corals?

Yes, but her coral isn't cladiella - it's dendronepthya

I fell for the same thing when I started out with marines.
Bought an "Orange pussy coral": easy to keep, ideal for beginers.
Yeah, right!
