Hi all:wave:
I've just recently removed 2 large eating fish from my system & am left with nearly a full tub of Formula 1 medium pellets. They are too big for remaining fish & would be ideal to drop on my Tubeastrea polyps, anyone see any issues with this? Anyone tried it? :thanks:

I doubt they'd be any cop myself. My suns will catch flake if it passes them, but i doubt it would be enough to even sustain there life, let alone let them thrive.

ive never even seen my sun corals eating flake - they only seem to grab bits of meaty things or smaller cyclopezze

Hi Rob,

anyone see any issues with this? Anyone tried it? I tried using Formula one (and two) pellets (the small size) a couple of years ago…

The polyps would readily ingest the pellets, but they seamed to have a hard time ‘breaking them down’; the rejection / regurgitation rate was too great for me to be comfortable to continue trialling them. I would imagine this would be worse when using a larger pellet (your medium size ones).

I also tried crushed pellets; again the polyps readily accepted the food, but they never thrived and the colours didn’t stay as vibrant as a hoped. Another downside I encountered when trialling crushed pellets, was the lack of adhesion of the food to the tentacles (compared to mysis or white fish) resulting in the food sometimes literally falling off the oral disc… also unlike ‘proper’ meaty foods, the escaped morsels rarely got re-captured by the polyps when / if re-circulated by the water flow.

Basically, If I where you, I wouldn’t bother.
If you do try using them, you’re going to have to crush them, but then the pellets will be small enough for your fish to eat… so that’s what I’d use it for.

Thanks - not my photo though. That very picture is responsible for my love affair with tubastrea :D

There simply stunning - my favorite coral hands down nothing comes close for colour and movement.
